We have yet to see the end of Jiraiya's fight with Pein, but, in either case, his loss, death, escape, etc., will definitely have an impact on future plots, starting with his will forwarded with the frogs to Naruto and others. And, I don't think that will be the last time we will see those frogs, considering the prophecy made by the eldest one.

How Jiraiya's fate will shape the events to come is certainely worth a thread on its own but I think it's best to know what this fate will be before making a thread about it. In the meantime there is still the current chapter discussion to throw wild guesses about what's going to happen.
