Mmm... It's one of the more... "maniac" type of thought-processes. Since he is supposed to be so "loyal" to these girls, I feel he is the type that treats every girl in a game to be a separate entity.
I guess a easier, more understandable comparison would be Pokemon (game). You create two Pokemon (let's say two Pikachu). Both Pikachu have the same moves and all, but you feel they aren't the same.

I guess you can use "parallel words" as an example instead? Two same people, but two different worlds (cartridges) and thus two different people...?
