Are they important to the story? Looks to me like they are grunt soldiers who never die. It'd make sense to build up a few characters if they play a big role in the story later on...but having all these randoms show up for an episode here and there slows it down in my books.
I mean keep em there...give em a few lines here and there, but by the end of the day, I ain't going to remember their names. Just leave em in the backround to take up space and I'm fine with that.
Can anyone remember the name of the losers in any event in the Olympics? Nope. You may remember the top 3 but the rest were useless and will never be heard from again...till they do something important in life.
