the atmosphere and the characters were interesting enough, good enough start to be interested in what they're going to do with the next 5 episodes.
its a little early to be judging the story imo, good or bad. as one should expect from any series, not much goes on in that department in the first episode (or even first two from the whole "its going to match the amount of time of a 12 ep series" standpoint). all you should really be expecting is enough of a hook to make it seem interesting and get you to want to see the next episode, and i thought it hooked well enough.
beyond that... not much to say...
the action was good
the fanservice nice
it was gritty and certainly got in your face with the violence
it wanted to grab attention and it did rather well at getting it
it tossed out an introduction, it was a good introduction; and has me wanting to see where this is all going to go.
'bout all you can expect for an episode 1, and...thats what you get.
