One way to curb piracy is to price a piece of software according to the economics of the country it's being sold in. If it's price the exact MSRP in US and Japan, just converted to the local currency, it's going to be too damn expensive (except in EU where you can afford it because your currency just owns). Of course pricing according to local economics can only be afforded if there's a good distribution system, and most software companies don't realize their software is reaching places they never intended to market to in the first place.

My colleague's brother ordered something original...and it got confiscating by customs because it was deemed pornographic. Pirates, however, are easily available because of the extensive black market. But rather than support that black market by purchasing a pirate, one can just download it. The former is not supporting the original creators. But at least the latter option is not supporting the profiteering thieves.

That was My most recent favorite was Come See Me Tonight, because it's consensual and monogamous.
