Actually, Fu dealing with her father's death wasn't in the OVA (well, it was part of the background setting, and still important, but nowhere near the centre of attention in this episode), and the way the OVAs handled characterisation, I doubt they could have pulled it off. Characterisation is a lot better in the TV series (if my memory doesn't play tricks on me).
I still expect it to be a warm and relaxed series, best consumed in small doses. But, as I said in my other post, I also expect it to be more of a character show, while retaining the picture book quality I loved about the OVAs.
