He's looking for originality. Clear and understandable would be fine, I think. As he said in ep7, "I hope she finds some meaning beyond revenge." Her "art" were but attempts to reproduce her father's work. She had no style, nor message of her own. Ultimately, she could not provide new forms of entertainment to Makishima.
And so, he tossed his toy to the other guy to play with instead.
On another note, I wonder if those sewers was where Kozaburo ended up as well.
