Yeah, not saying it's
bad, but it is inevitably going to be poorly-received. Killing the MC at the end of a show, sure, or after he/she's done something significant, but just as the action begins to pick up? This is the first example I've seen of
that in an anime.

I think that Dr. Jaeger has it spot on: Eren just got lucky that time. When he decided to attack the Titans head-on his luck ran out.
