A doujinshi (or doujin) is like a fanmade manga. They're generally humorous (and/or contain h-content) but there are also plenty of ones that have a serious story to accompany them. 'Another mobius' and various Crazy Clover Club stories are just two relatively well known examples of doujins that have serious plot lines.
There's also an official manga, which is what this thread is covering. But I've not read it, so I have no opinion other then my dislike of the art
