In the original version, Kira had the Strike duck under the javelin and swing the sword at the same time, making it an instinctive attack. In the remaster, we had Kira stumble the Strike away, bringing up the blade by accident so that the Blitz ran right into it, making it look very much like an accident. Better animation or not, many people consider the original depiction a better, more powerful scene, while the remaster change weakened and diluted it, coming of as washing blood from his hands, so to speak.
So yes. Kira killed him by accident.
