Also, the name of two schools are fairly similar in pronunciation.
'Ai-etsu' is the name of school Ichika was taking an exam for, and IS (from Japanese point of view) is pronounced 'Ai-esu.'

Simply put, what actually happened was that he entered a wrong exam site.

Apparantly the instructor for IS Academy enterance exam was very busy at the time.

When Ichika entered the room (by mistake) She didn't even look at him (thus not realizing he was a boy) and just told him to 'get ready for the exam'

Ichika, having realized something was not right, saw the inactive IS, and touched it from pure curiousity.

I smell some conspiracy, and I think that Dra. Tabane must have a finger in it. And I had to ask because this part is yet to be shown in the anime, and thus left me wondering.
