Araragi and Kanbaru certainly do get along quite well, but I get the image of "best friends" more than "lovers" from them. For all their sexual teasing, they don't really seem that interested in each other. Or rather, Kanbaru can get away with that because she knows he's not interested (or finds it more awkward than anything else). Kanbaru serves the same kind of role in his life as a male friend.
