Nichijou, by itself, is not a turn-off so far. Maybe some people expect a little bit too much. I don't expect rocking, dancing OPs/EDs, the next rising seiyuu to steal the show and moe moe kyun all the time.
Pretty much this. We viewers are bombarded with a lot of surreality that we may never find in other anime, and for this reason the show has no particular "hook" to leave people looking forward to the episodes every week.
