Man, we are all so jaded at this point. It's almost funny!

I think the problem is that Kubo is trying to go back to his formula of light-hearted comedy that he used at the beginning to Bleach. It's how he likes to lead into his arcs - a bit of comedy and then !!whoa srs bsns!!

Except that none of the "comedy" so far is actually funny. He's given us an a-typical tsundere character paired with a Johnny-Come-Walkalloverme and not much else. If he's going to go half-assed on the comedy schtick he might as well just leave it out entirely and focus on advancing the plot since at this point that is going to be his only saving grace.
