The glasses reflect Starlock's symbol, which is a star. You can see the star on his trenchcoat and on the uniforms of the Great Gurren Gang - it used to be the symbol of Kamina City as well.
IMO, Simon's symbol is a star because stars are the lights that line the seams of heaven, and Simon's series theme is to "pierce the heavens" or reach the stars.
