I use them in my device for making chainmaille links (wrapping wire around the rod as it spins courtesy of a small motor). They have some decent mass.
I probably need a thicker one for the tommy gun barrel....the drum-mag foregrip version usually have a threaded rod. Can't seem to find one that thick anywhere.
