In a way, I think that this is one of the strengths of Marimite. Even if you don't draw some sort of deep emotional attachment to the melodramatic moments, there are still ways to enjoy those scenes. I think of this show as a welcome refinement of the old shoujo dramas; and that it's all the more accessible because of that. It used to be that if you didn't buy into the melodrama, the show's effectiveness would completely fall apart.
