Depends, in the manga It didn't seem appropiate when Elfman first attempted his FT-body vs Sol. I didn't understand the reasoning because it didn't look like he was getting beat bad at that point to warrent a "power-up."
Also it seemed out-of place to me when he squated on the floor tired after failing FT. FT really that draining that you can't stand up and fight at all?
The anime to me makes more sense at why Elfman was screwed at the start. Plus it carried overwell into the flashbacks.
