HDD docks are meant to be used as a temporary solution (like backup, rescuing data and storage). Most of these docks are SATA and work with any SATA drive. These docks usually have USB and eSATA outputs.

If you not planning to have the HD for long or use it to swap with other drives, these are ideal, but a HD enclosure is more recommended if you planning on having it plugged in all the time.
