I don't know if it was "put on hold" so much as it reached an ending point. I'm not sure if they do intend to continue it or not, as there's some overlap in the content of the new manga, even if the heroine is different. It's possible that they just decided to have the manga go a different route than the novels (and, presumably, anime).
