It just felt unnatural for something so dramatic, almost to the point of it feeling unnatural, happened with only one episode supporting the drama out of a whole batch of 24. In regards to the whole Yasuko thing, I have to agree.
It's just this episode and last episode where she actually became important. It's... sudden.
The Ryuuji/Taiga thing has had a hell of a lot of setup though.
