No, the anime Welkin is much harder to connect to. He doesn't take good decisions; as a matter of fact he doesn't take any decisions at all.
In the game he might have been an eccentric, but he was a lead character that acted like a lead. Right now in the anime he's just as irritating as Shinji was in eva.
Well it's a matter of taste I guess. I like my leads to have a strong character.
