China meets the basic economic requirments to be called a first world power. Obviously, they have a long way to go culture wise (specifically the acceptance of foreign influences, amongst many, many other issues). If nothing else, they exist right out side of the sphere known as "First World", but well above those nations assigned the "Third World" status (of which there are few save for China).
