Anyhow, I removed the spell list on Kay's main profile so make way for a more comprehensive spell profile for her, since I was rushed in making her profile, even though her concept and spell list had been around for quite some time ^^;;;
Here's Part One of her spells list, and a small intro and recap.
Spoiler for Length:
Biography of Kaylin “Kay” Mathis: Complete Spell List Part I
Despite her preference of avoiding physical engagement of threats as much as possible, Kay has been involved in many battles in the past, having to fend off the likes of grave robbers, criminal lords, pirates, drug smugglers, automated defense systems and at times the TSAB. The archaeologist is a firm believer of Belka-type magic, although she uses Mid-childa style magic due to her stubborn belief that the current Neo-Belka style is “untrue to the essence of the original”. While proficient in only a few sonic-based spells, Kay often uses powerful several one-time spells that she acquires from information derived from any artifacts, relics and databases that she comes across. As such, Kaylin is most dangerous in one of her work sites, as she has no qualms in using powerful magic artifacts and weapons to defend her work when faced with significant opposition, even going so far as using Lost Logia, as long as she can reduce the overall damage to her worksite.
Also adding to Kaylin’s arsenal is her collection of Armed and Intelligent Devices she has collected in the course of her expeditions. She is known to test these devices at least once in a real combat situation, and even when there are no threats nearby (Countless species of exotic wildlife has been sacrificed for the benefit of magical spell testing, often ending up as the archaeologist’s dinner…). She once had thirty such devices in her inventory, although asides from a few storage devices, most have been confiscated by the TSAB following her reckless behavior against the Arcean Mafia (despite the fact that this particular criminal organization was not destroyed by Kay’s Jewel Seed, but by a Plasma Lancer Phalanx Shift from a certain mage…), and subsequently, any Class A devices and artifacts unearthed by Kay in her expeditions must be submitted to the TSAB for cataloging and storage. Despite this restriction, Kay continues to horde select devices to replace her lost collection, often using magic nullification spells to hide their obvious magical nature, although this spell is effective only for Class A - devices.
Out of all the devices in her collection, two are the most precious to Kaylin, and the most important to her work. The first is the storage device Khaydarin, a single piece wrap-around, orange-tinted visor custom made by Kay for field use. Asides from being a functional safety visor (and spiffy fashion accessory), Khaydarin is also her primary device for the casting of various scanning and detection spells, useful when finding buried artifacts or hidden objects, which include:
- Macro Sight: gives Kay binocular vision, allowing her to visually spot objects several miles away.
- Micro Sight: gives Kay microscopic vision, to better perceive microscopically tiny objects.
- Starlight Search: Working in a similar principle to technologically-based starlight scopes, this spell amplifies nearby low-light sources and amplifies them, giving Kay the ability to see under low-light or dark conditions, but being magic based, the resolution and clarity of the images is leaps better than contemporary technology. Using this ability makes the visor glow with a dull orange tint due to the nature of the magic, thus this spell is not used in conditions where stealth is necessary.
- Heat Search: Khaydarin uses infra-red detection to reveal environmental heat signatures, and as with Starlight Search, the sensitivity and clarity of the images are much better compared to technologically based systems. Unlike Starlight Search, Heat Search does not leave a tell-tale activation signature, making it desirable for stealthy action.
- Ground Radar Deep Scan (GRDS) :A magic array set up on the ground scans the ground below using radar, which is then perceived through her visor. This is her primary spell in detecting most non-magical buried artifacts.
- Sonic Scan: Khaydarin’s only audio-based detection system, this spell gives Kaylin the ability to hear and perceive sounds throughout the range of audio spectrums of any volume, from ultrasound to infrasonic sounds that cannot be heard by conventional ears (No gossip is safe when Kay’s around…). This ability is most usually used in conjunction with the Armed Device Galatea to better control Kay’s sonic spells, and it can also be used for underwater detection ala Sonar.
- Remote Sensing Scan (RSS): Khaydarin can be used to visually perceive a location that is beyond visual sight and behind cover, at maximum targets can be visually spotted up to 100 miles away. The energy consumption for this spell is an enormous drain on the B+ rank Kay even at short ranges, and is thus used only for the visual confirmation of known distant targets.
- Ether Scan: This powerful scanning spell is used to locate the faintest sources of magical energy; as such it is used to confirm the location of magical items, and also the detection of mages within the surrounding area. As with RSS, this spell’s massive energy consumption relegates it to infrequent use.
- Penetration Sensor: A much weaker version of the RSS spell, this spell gives Kay the ability to see clearly behind solid objects of any composition within a few meters. Used for peering behind walls or other obstacles. For places expected to be dark, such as the inside of a box, a supporting illumination spell is used to make the spell effective. (When in dire financial straits, Kay has been known to sell this service of Khaydarin to prospective clients, labeling it “The Glance of Heaven”).
- D-Wave Scan: This incredibly powerful scanning spell allows Kay to perceive the extradimensional distortions in the surrounding physical space, allowing her to pick out the weakest points of extradimensional stability that enable her to use dimension-jumping spells using the least amount of energy – clearly a need for someone of Kay’s level. This spell is also used in the detection of tell-tale signs of dimensional disturbance left behind through the use of extra-dimensional phenomena, or dimensional weapons or artifacts. As with other high level scans, this ability is used infrequently to preserve Kay’s strength for other jobs.
- G-Wave Scan: Similar in vein to the D-Wave Scan, the G-Wave Scan allows for the detection of minute distortions in a gravitational field. It is used for the detection of massive, yet invisible objects that cannot be detected by previously mentioned scanning abilities.
It should be noted that Kay can use two or more of these spells in combination to further enhance detection abilities, although doing so increases the amount of magical energy needed to cast multiple spells. All of Kay’s detection spells can be coupled with a snapshot spell, which is the magical equivalent of a camera, used to capture images that is then stored as digital images that can be read by both magic and technologically based imaging devices and computers. Khaydarin’s functions are managed by two of Kay’s AI “children” Shinji and Rey, the former managing information gathering, retrieval and collection of the scanned images, and the latter responsible for the execution and analysis of the various scans.

It was kinda hard to spot, considering that its rather old.
O_O Talk about 100% area awareness... And this is just 1 device. I wonder how the other 2 are going to build on her skills...
Just a little announcement. The Wall of Blue Cheese is going to get revised due to me never reading or even knowing the existence of the Nanoha novel. Now that I've read it, it has shown that my Fate's past ideas and basically all of the Pre-Season 1 Arc is totally out of whack with reality. Thanks to Loner for pointing it out before the damning bits made it to print in my friend's fic. Do you guys mind if I post the revised backstory here for critique for in-canon-ness? Onegai?
