I see what they were trying to convey with Yuu and Ayumu, but I must say the execution left a lot to be desired.
The pace of the action was a let down, with uninspiring transitions. Also, Ayumu shaving off Kyoko's extra lives wasn't really accomplished to a way that matches the mood (incompatibility feeling with the music and what Ayumu was trying to do).
Everything was notably difficult to believe, considering how Kyoko managed to incapacitate Yuu, but was basically doing nothing against Ayumu. Of course, she did lose her Masou Shoujo item (assuming it is her katana serving the same role as Haruna's mistleteinn), but she wasn't really a grunt in term of magic, so seeing her barely struggling against Ayumu going very slowly at her wasn't convincing one bit.
At least, there was some interesting stuff around, but for an episode that based things on action and "resolution", it wasn't completely satisfactory to me.

It could be that Ayumu was not all that threatening of a presence towards Kyoko as Yuu presented herself. So Kyoko believed that a few shots there and there would kill him. But then was getting mentally distracted by Ayumu's words setting her on a mental breakdown (which left her to do some rash actions). But I myself don't get why she din't just burn up Ayumu and leave him nothing but ash.
