I don't think the anime covered Kaname's past. From what I read, it covered only up to the end of the Shizuka arc, and what little detail of Kaname's past we know is revealed during the Rido arc, which will be the second season.

Sorry, I misunderstood when you said "half-brother" because being a half-brother would mean that you share one of the parents. But in this case, Zero was adopted as well, so he's an adopted brother.

one of the Kuran ancestors. From how I understand it, all purebloods are related at one point or another - that's how they maintain their PURE blood. Like royalties, they all marry within the families to maintain the purity of the blood. It remains unknown just how Yuuki and Kaname are related but in the vampire bloodline, they both carry Kuran bloods.

Okay, after saying all that now I'm confused how the other lesser vampires came into being? If purebloods have pure vampire bloods that has not been tainted with human blood (as Headmaster Cross explained), then how does the noble vampires even exist, when human/vampire blood hybrids commonly fall to level E and are destroyed?

One thing that has been bugging me was

the impression I got during the flashback when Yuuki's parents faced Rido for the last time. The dialogue between Yuuki's mother and her father about their decision to finally create an offspring out of their love gives me the impression that pureblood vampire youngsters may not be born like humans. Ack, I should go back and re-read that manga chapter to be sure. >.<;

I hope Kaname's past will be revealed...and real soon...because I'm sure his history will explain a lot about the developing situation and different relationships of the characters.

I also think that Rido may be Kaname's brother or something. Rido is supposedly the current Head of the Kuran family and not Kaname - or so he and his followers claim.
