How to do a proper timing?
I made a thread about typesetting which I initially meant to be about timing. I sometimes get confused with this two terms. So, I creating this thread again.
How does one do a proper timing(where character phrases matches the subs)? I never done timing before, so I would need some hints as how to insert sub properly while matching the voice(I know the basics i.e. like inserting subs, positioning; I just need to know how to time. ) Just want to get the job done, that's all. What software(s) should I use? I could rip the audio with virtualdub, but that's next? I heard fansub group uses SSA, but it only accepts mono audio. Also how can I change stereo audio to mono. Thanks! |

Open your video in VirtualDub. Audio -> Full Processing Mode -> Conversion -> 8 bit/mono. File -> save wave.
Open SSA, Timing -> Time from wave file. Open your wave file. Play row plays the current row. Switch allows you to toggle between editing and timing mode. Play plays the audio from current starting position. Play selected only plays the current subtitle. "!" plays the last 0.5 secs of the current subtitle. The large arrows on the left side adjust the start/end times by 100 ms, the small ones by 10. Grab times applies those times to your script. You can directly click into the shown wave form; a left click sets the starting time, a right click the ending time. Holding ctrl while hovering your mouse over the wave plays the location in a crippled way. |
