How is this garbage? I was following this manga since ch.1 and have to say it is pretty well written. It really depicts the selfishness and hypocrisy of the humanity very well. |

I'm rather surprised by Kanon's unusually harsh language myself. I thought I was the only one throwing that level of vitriol these days...
Definitely some questionable plot twists in the story but I wouldn't consider it garbage. And worth giving credit to the mangaka for his exceptional artwork (which I doubt the anime could do any justice). That said, I did end up losing interest in the story at a certain point so maybe more criticism is warranted? I don't really know how the manga was ever received at any point so I'm curious to see how others see the anime.

I admit I'm probably harsher on this series because I really loved Death Note and Bakuman.

But this series is really in a totally different direction from their past works, and I do not see it fair to compare this works to the past ones. I personally find this series much more relatable with how down to earthly flawed the characters are. |

PE is so bad compared to Death Note and Bakuman. How come this manga is already longer than DN with these failing sales?
It's really bad from the start. The explanation of why all participators of this death game are solely from Japan is just eye-rolling.

Yeah, have to say I agree with Kanon too. Not from a DN or Bakuman comparison, since I never got the appeal of Death Note nor Bakuman either. Characterization is messy, and most of them one-dimensional. Despite the “seriousness” of the plot, it’s hard to take it seriously given the ridiculous premise. It doesn’t help that the author takes it as seriously as he did with DN!

I have seen Bakuman but not Death Note nor Platinum End. But one thought comes to mind after reading the comments.
"An editor's job is to prevent a mangaka from doing the manga he wants to do" - Kakushigoto Maybe this is the kind of manga the mangaka(s?) wanted to do, but couldn't because at first he was not famous and then he needed an stable income to continue being a mangaka. Maybe he reached a point in his life when he was already famous and no longer cared if his creation was not a top seller ever. We have also reached a point where fewer and fewer popular mangas (or mangas done by popular mangakas) have not gotten an anime adaption. I mean, we already got an anime adaption for Rin-ne just because it was from Rumiko Takahashi, not because it was popular. If I am right this will be your usual twelve episode series that never gets a sequel. |

Last chapter of manga is out (English tl tomorrow on m+). Holy shit, what a garbage.
It will be funny when anime starts and everyone will be shitting on it from start and only DN animeonly fanboys will be naive enough to have hopes.

Now that the manga is over, and after that hilariously atrocious ending which ruined everything that came before it, I stand by what I said. This is garbage. The only saving grace of this manga was the art, and on that point it might be Obata's best work yet. Some pages were stunning.
I'd be curious to know what people who actually liked the manga thought of that ending, but this isn't the best place for it. Bump the manga thread if you're interested in sharing your thoughts.
