Anyone but Lee wouldn't make sense, because of all the joke about Haruhi and Konata having the same VA.

But is most of the humor going to translate well? Unless you really understand anime or Japanese culture most of the humor is going to be lost on you. Hell, most of the humor was lost on me and I'm a huge anime fan.

This post by Vexx should be pinned to the top of every page in this thread, but I'll quote a bit of it here:

Newsflash: about 90% of Lucky*Star is made of mainstream humor approachable by just about anyone in a country that has hobby fans, small talk, and human foibles.
As for the English casting, I'll hold judgment until I hear some dubbed previews - but most of the VA's have done work I enjoyed, so I'm not worried.

Amen, brother, amen.

To add to Vexx's examples: Excel Saga, the anime that introduced the ADV Vid-notes.

I'm more intrigued by how they're going to localize the translated script for the dub. The subs I'm less concerned about if they take the PPD route.

If you got the Haruhi dub, you've already heard him as Taniguchi... makes you wonder why he got the role of Minoru...

One is starting to think these VAs should meet annually like Japan&America "sister cities" do.

I didn't really love the dubbed version of Haruhi. If Wendy Lee is doing Konata's voice...I just hope it can be a cute voice, like it's supposed to be.

That is an impressive list. Not only is it long, it contains many anime shows familiar to me. With cautious optimism, I will wait for it to come out.

Ohohoho! English dub trailer for Lucky Star is out!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=1smSoy-hWvc

Very exciting. Oh yeah! And it actually took me awhile to recognize Wendee Lee's voice coming out of Konota. I say she nailed it!

Thanks for the reminder of why I avoid dubs.

I may actually watch this in English when I'm done with it in Japanese. I won't say it's brilliant, but it's interesting. (And, to be blunt, the original dubbing for Lucky Star was not that good - the whole "two people doing every background character" thing got way, way up my nose.)

Hmm... Dubbing something like Lucky Star into English?

Doesn't work for me
