Argh! I still have Ep12's write-up to do before I can start discussing in full in this thread. I can feel the distance growing between me and the current point of discussion.

That's a possibility. I've seen that done a few times, maybe a lot, in animes. And, maybe one of the two OVA DVDs will replay what happened between Ep.12 and the last episode. It could happen.

Just finished watching it... very good ending to the series. It ends happily, more or less even though the events leading up to it was very sad. T_T I won't say more until more watch the series.
The last scene is a bit of a mystery though, and I don't know if it can be explained or not; or it will be told in the 2 OVA DVDs coming out in a few months.

While this is more boring I would actually prefer this one.
I have seen the series from beginning to end and been reading what's been posted in these forums about the episodes.

It's just that the sight of the two empty cans of Tomato Juice is a bit of a mystery, well to me. It just implies that Matsuri and Yorito aren't dead, or figuratively speaking, they may be dead, but they're still there.
And, the 2 DVDs, they could be anything at the moment... Aono's new life as a classmate with Mana would be more interesting to watch. Like you, I'd prefer it as well. Plus, Aono in that school uniform looked really cute.

It is a decent ending, nothing dramatic, though I feel like eating a good supper but ended up with a decent dessert. Aono's seemingly to resign to her fate immediately was pretty much left me with a feeling that we have a forced ending.
Moreover, I wish that we have a resolution on Takeshi-Mayuko arc. It seemed to be left hanging, or are we looking at a spin-off? I hope at least they will address it in the DVD.
In addition, apparently Matsuri's kicking habit rubbed on Aono.
Good ending.
Probably best ending logically possible.
My first thought on Mana's new hobby- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Yorito converted Mana!!!!!........................ Pretty much the only problem I had with the ending. And Aono's kicking too... (well, at least Mana's room isn't a sky...).
Once again sola's charm is in its twists. That last one at the end caught me by surprise.
I'm going to try to be fair. This show ended up being more about Aono than anyone else, which I should have noticed before (I now better appreciate why most of the promos/logos focus on Aono and Matsuri). Unfortunately I just don't think it was portrayed very well; rather than her reaching her own end, it was forced upon her. The effect of that is that Matsuri/Yorito come off more as antagonists. I simply have no sympathy for either of them, since ultimately the role they decided to take on was one purely based on what they wanted; what they thought was best.
Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way, but I still have issue with Yorito. Even though he isn't the Yorito that Aono knows, he still has an integral connection with her. His insensitivity to Aono's own suffering shocked me; as if, after finding out the truth, all prior ties were cut save for Matsuri's.
Speaking of Matsuri, I've come to dislike her as well. She's managed to turn Aono's life upside down literally three times: once for herself, once unknowingly, and once where she thought she knew what was best. Given Aono's state at the time (and how she tends to be overall), Matsuri could have been _dead wrong_. That Aono didn't waste her chance at being human again is, at least in my opinion, lucky. At that point she was back to nothing, so between the choice of rebuilding her prior relationships (with Koyori/Mana) or giving up entirely, she decided to go with the former--she could have just as likely killed herself though.
I like how prior relationships are still solidly represented by the end. That Mana's taken to the same habit as Yorito (as an apparent side-effect to the amnesia) is touching to me. It really shows how strong her affection toward him is. Likewise for Koyori although less so. Also, the scene where Mana explores the rooftop was very clever. The camera work was done in such a way that you'd expect Yorito to have been right around the corner; I think they pulled that move something like 3 times before showing the viewer that it's Aono who is on the rooftop this time.
Just some random additional notes:
-Yorito showing Matsuri the sky was brought to conclusion, but indirectly. In the end she was able to see the real sky, and it was through Yorito, but probably not as either of them had originally intended.
-The "hint" that past Yorito mentions in the cave was completely tossed. It probably shouldn't be viewed as an important point but as an introduction to the fact that both Yorito and Aono had a past relationship with Matsuri.
-The notion that Yorito would come to hate Matsuri (she says this in the second episode) came to pass. It was probably explored as a plot point and also eventually thrown out.
-In relation to the last point, early on people were speculating over exactly what Matsuri's power is. In the end, this ended up not mattering. Actually, powers in general seem to be of relatively minor importance.
-Takeshi seems to still be able to recall Yorito and Matsuri. It might have been a matter of being out of range of the amnesia effect that took place in episode 11, but it's still curious.
There's a direction that I'd like to have had sola go in, but I haven't quite thought it through yet. I'll try to transcribe it later.
Lastly, I'm still all for a Mayuko/Takeshi spin-off/OVA. If done correctly, I could see myself liking it more than sola itself. A very serious take on how Takeshi's feelings evolve over time (including as he approaches old age) would be great.
I'm very glad I watched this series, and I liked the final episode a lot.

Good but not great might be my summary of the series. Depth? Perhaps not, but some wonderful sweet and gentle emotions throughout, and especially in this final episode. I have no complaints. A high-class dessert is just fine, Mentorian.
I disagree with most of the negative things (as opposed to the positive things) xat says, mainly because they don't much matter to the way I personally enjoyed the show. I was never interested in judging any of the participants, just interested in feeling what they felt. I ended up liking them all, if it comes to that. I tend not to like discussions of what writers should have done with a certain show. Other shows can do different things, but this one did a sola-thing very well, in my opinion.
And except for Yorito, I thought the voice-acting was superb throughout. It wasn't a strongly acted drama like NANA, but the voices all had something special to offer, it seemed to me. Honda Youko was excellent, and this is as much as I have ever liked Noto Mamiko.

Granted I'll need to re-watch later, but over all right now I can say I'm rather happy with the way it ended. It's been a rather nice series from start to finish and hopefully it will be licensed by a decent company.

The main thing I'm happy for is the fact Aono now has a chance at true happiness as opposed to the fake happiness she was experiencing for awhile. Plus thanks to both Kyori and Mana she won't be lonely. Aono is interesting. I went from finding her boring at first. Then I became rather bitter at her. However in the end I ultimately started feeling sorry for what she went through. Which is why I'm glad things turned out the way it did. Also on another note I like Mayuko's new outfit.

I didn't think I would say this, but there was one imaginary scenario described by someone in the episode 12 thread that was half-true in accordance to the ending. Having only seen the pictures, I won't even dream of making concrete opinions immediately, but it seems as though that alls well ends well.
Masturi was probably owned again by Aono, though Yorito proved to be the maverick factor for Aono to turn back to normal. Probably a few more flashbacks here and there.
I guess at the end it goes to show the 'happy' ending for Aono-That she is able to break off from her past and continue living in the present and for the future with real people around her. It certainly won't be the tragic ending many people have envisioned, and at the very least, Yorito still left an impression on them even as he moved on.
....Wait, what's with those two cans of tomato shiruko?!?
The big question now is how the two DVD episodes are going to be used. Hopefully not just silly fun, but perhaps a little exploration of the past and the possibility of those two being alive still.
Better yet, give us a look into the lives of certain side characters.
