Cultural References in Lucky Star

I'm pretty certain about this since I'm a fan of Tsukasa Hojo (of City Hunter fame): when Konata was talking about Kagami and her sisters, she alludes to the idea that the Hiiragi sisters have a hidden personality, probably thieves like the Kisugi sisters in "Cat's Eye."

You can find bottles like this at Asian markets usually. Maybe it'll be in creamy-style, like this one? [which tastes like Cream Soda.] But the kind of bottle usually stays consistent. By the way, a drink in Japan called "Cream Soda" has a scoop of ice cream floating atop a glass of melon soda usually.



To be on topic in some way, during the "Can I take a picture of you?" scene, it looks like there's a sign that says "Fooly!" on it.. perhaps the next word that was blocked out was "Cooly?"

As part of imagining how great life would be in a big family, Konata mentions four daughters and a mother in the olden days in America, waiting for the return of a long-absent father.

That's a little barebones, but it sounds suspiciously like the plot of Little Women.

This episode establishes that our otaku heroine has an aversion to books, so how could she ever have encountered that story? Well, if we know one thing about Kona-chan, we know that she has a certain penchant for cultural references that are older than she is, such as, oh, 80s anime adaptations of 19th-century novels.

During Lucky Channel,

Anizawa Meito-san mentions "Rou**n", "Gao**nger", "**tato", "Mai***", they are references to Hiromi Konno (Akira's seiyuu) other roles from other series.

"Rou**n" would be Rouran (from Kikou Sen'nyo Rouran)
"Gao**nger" could be Go-gan (from Mamimume Mogacho)
"**tato" would be Potato (from Air)
"Mai***"...I have no idea at all, but as the others are other voice-acting roles by the same seiyuu, this must be another one of them.

Also explains why he asked if she's Akira Kogami "right now".

If Naruto and Bleach are produced by KyoAni, then it will be possible to see references from the two.

I guess Haruhi, FMP and Kanon references are enough.

That's for sure, but there were references of anime not produced by KyoAni. Somehow I just feel that those 2 won't appear in Lucky Star as references.

I'm not sure if this is purely, unbelieveably coincidental but... In the scene where Yui, Konata's father, and Yutaka are setting up for the surprise birthday party. The scenes flash one from to another with the ticking noise in the background, with the time.

This seems to be a parody on the popular Fox TV series, "24," where after a commercial break, a few different scenes will flash through with a clock, with a very similar beeping/ticking noise in the background.

Also, when they ask for the career choices, Konata puts down "Brigade Leader" for the first one, which is another Suzumiya Haruhi references.

Yutaka and Konata are playing what looks a lot like a Nintendo Wii...
