no, it didn't have the feel of a love relation with hayate.

Pretty much how I feel. Hayate is gonna be a butler there for a LONG time, and they're only 3 years apart, heck my parents are 4 years. The only real thing is that Hayate views Nagi like a little sister, and if he starts feeling those "Urges" for her, he's gonna feel really confused. I mean wanting to do your little sister?!

That's the first thought that came into my head as well, so it's got to be. It's too similar!

Episode 25 gave the mood and atmosphere as if it was truly the conclusion to the series, but it concluded with Nagi and Hayate overcoming a great misunderstanding, and therefore progressing their master-butler relationship.

A good episode, with a bunch of really cute moments. Ismui screentime is always a good thing, and we got to witness a bit of relationship progress between Hayate and Nagi.

Small Evangelion reference when the mecha blew up too.

Oh was it Eva? I thought it really look familiar when the robot blew up and it has the shape of cross thingy. Aha, the beginning of the ep. is really funny, I guess Hayate was really shaken by that incident.

Spoiler for My favorite shot:

--> Yup, that's one heck of an evil aura coming out of him

It was especially great when he pulls the cover off his gun and Gilbert just loses it. I loved it when Gilbert ties to give the "even if you defeat me!" speech and Hayate shuts him with a burst from his machine gun.

I agree that this episode certainly the feel of a finale episode, with Nagi and Hayate overcoming their misunderstanding and Hayate re-dedicating himself as her butler.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes from here - I'm pretty sure that weird pendant that Hayate has will play a significant part in the series at some point, as will the challenge of winning the fortune.

I obviously didnt get all references but there are two I would like to ask:
1) The room where Nagi etc are hiding, that looks 1:1 to the underground cave of Tokyo majin gakuen kenpucho, where Kisaragi hides the sword. But maybe its just similar looking.
2) I guess I am completely (sp?) here but I thought the bag? (dont know how you call that exactly...) is 100% the same thing Masamori from Kekkaishi is carrying whenever you see him. Then again it could be something that appears in several anime.

edit: <3 Saki
This is why references in the anime are so tough for me to find. I've not seen either anime you reference and likely never will considering how far behind I already am (I'd need to take a year off and watch a lot of anime every day just to make a dent in the backlog).

Still, if what you saw looks very much like another anime, it is likely a reference.

The mecha unit is one folks liken to one from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, but I looked through the list of mecha (with images) from the Gainax site and didn't find this one. The show has referenced mecha from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann before, but that was a clear reference where it looked exactly like the mecha in the show, but with different coloring.

The problem with this ep was it was a bit disjointed. The ep seemed to jump from scene to scene without much rhythm or regularity, and characters just seemed to completely change attitudes and feelings about things a bit too quickly. It all sorta just resolved itself, but none of it felt all that natural.

But this idea that the quality of an episode depends on how much Hina there is in it annoys me. There have been a few examples of enjoyable eps with no Hina, the last one being the most obvious. People get too fanboyish about some characters. She's a good character, but the show hardly dies without her.

I find myself wondering... how else could it possibly go? The show has to revolve around Nagi and Hayate until the end, because that's the way it was setup. Even if, somehow, romance starts blooming between him and one of the other characters, at the end of the day, his loyalty to Nagi will remain the focus and potentially trump it. I don't know if they're really going to go for a romantic ending (sort of doubt it, actually), but this isn't like a bishoujo game with multiple "paths". Nagi has to remain the central focus 'til the end, because it's really all about Hayate and her.

no she does not. There have been many other series where focus shifted between charcaters because the male lead fell for another. And if you have seen character polls over there it's easy to see Nagi is not the favorite. (thank god for that)

In this genre (shounen romantic comedy)? I don't necessarily doubt that it's possible, but I really can't think of any examples off-hand. And I really wasn't implying anything about any characters being the favourite in popularity polls (that's notwithstanding). I was referring to the plot of the show -- it's not about Hayate finding the love of his life, it's about him finding his place in the world by protecting Nagi as her butler (they sort of give that away in the pre-OP clip). Love/romance is a side-issue they flirt with and use for plot advancement, but it certainly hasn't been the driving concern of the show for the first half. So I'm pretty sure my comment still stands -- from a storytelling perspective, this show revolves around Hayate and Nagi. That obviously doesn't mean you have to like her or anything, and it doesn't mean they'll end the show with the two of them falling in love. It just means that she can't up and disappear -- she's the female lead.

I was refering to this part in particular. No she does not have to reamin the focal point. As I said before focus can shift. That why I said the thing about the character polls, it's obvious people are more interested in other charcacters than Nagi and would maybe prefer more story on them. Because we know what Nagi basically is, she is Tsundare, Manga writing, hates going to schoo, and hates leaving the house girl. That is not very intresting. Whereas we have other more interesting characters that many would rather see than Nagi.

Nagi isn't actually a tsundere. She'd need to deny liking Hayate to qualify.

And Hinamori is the almost perfect student council president who's afraid of heights. Just as boring as Nagi.

And Hayate's the unlucky but earnest butler in debt. Booooooring.

And Tama's a talking pet. Who cares about that?

More seriously, a summary description does little to say whether a character is entertaining or not.

Well im biased since ive read the manga and now much more about Hina. And believe me that is not all there is to her. The manga potrays a much more in deep characterization of Hina. While the manga cuts many of it out.

And Nagi not being a tsundare, then what the hell is she. If that is not a tsundare then i don't know what is.

She also has to apologise, which she didn't do. Then she denies crying in the first place, so it's moot.

I was really expecting this to be a two-part episode, and having to trim out some things from the manga, I think I would've like it better that way. We'll just have to see what fillerville is like next week. (But it's a hamster episode, so it won't be all bad.)

And that this mech (which I think is supposed to resemble a rat or mole) is exactly as it was in the manga, it's kinda hard to reference a show that didn't exist at the time.

"Small"? Also, the thing with the stoplights all changing at the same time made me think of Eva.

I wonder if there's a "Gallery of Mecha" website? Would make it easier to spot some things, like all those robot corpses.

I was merely referring to the way it blew up, the shape of a crucifix, hence small. Did I miss something?
