computer won't defrag

I'm not sure when this problem came up, but last week I tried to defrag my computer like normal. I usually do it before i sleep so it's done when i wake up. Everything was normal, it analyzed and started the process, but for some reason when i woke up, it said defragment is complete but when i look at the bars, it's exactly the same as before the defrag, and when reanalyzing it, it's as if it didn't defrag at all and still says I should defragment it.

Anyone know the problem here

How much free space do you have? Are you using Windows XP defrag? Usually Windows XP defrag doesn't do shit if you have almost no space at all or the blocks of free space are way too small.

Your defragger may be messed up. Here's the link to a free defrag program that I find to be very fast and efficient. It needs at least 15% free space to work best.

Big files can't be moved so if you have big images of games or movies or big arhive files, they windows cannot move them so those files will not be defrag

I downloaded this and used it last night. It defragged but I'm not sure if it actually did it, as my windows defragger still indicates it as needing for a defragment.

I understand that. However it isn't some files that can't be defragged, it's everything, nothing changes after i do one. Also I'm trying to defrag my C: which has practically nothing big on it, I keep everything in my 2 other drives.

How many fragmented files/folder?

If it's just a few of them it's sometime happen.
I've experienced this once and experiment about it with various defragmenting tools.

I've playing with my second hard disk (copying and deleting some scrap files) and defrag it, if there's only very few of fragmented filels/folders it won't defrag. It says defrag complete but the fragmented is still there. But since this won't harm your performance i think it's OK.
