Linksys Router Problems

I have been using BT for over a year so I know how bad Linksys sucks. I have got rid of all my linksys equiptment except for the wireless router. Many wireless computers on my network so it would be very un-cost effectient for me to get rid of it.

I just want to know how to shut off the firewall.

I average about 5-10 KB/s dl and 10-20 KB/s ul. I have been averaging 0-1 KB/s dl and 15-30 KB/s ul on the Naruto 29-32 torrent file... for 10 days I am at about 50.1% I am all about doing my share but come on!

Could some one help me shut it off?

Proof that my router sucks Pic taken with direct connection to Cable Modem

hmm. I use a Linksys and I get 300k down without any problems. Get the latest firmware and open the ports to your system and that should fix the problem.

First, Tech Support = Forum for all tech questions NOT related to bittorrent.
So moved this to "Download Help".

Also, I've got no problems with my Linksys router at all -- it's been working
like a charm for ages now. I guess you just shouldn't use their network cards.

And afaik, it doesn't contain a firewall. It IS a router though, which means that
other BitTorrent clients won't be able to contact you until you tell the router to
which PC in your network it needs to forward those requests to.

This is commonly known as Port Forwarding. Login to the control panel
of the router and make sure the appropiate ports are forward to the IP of your PC.

I use ports 1024-65535, but I guess just forwarding 6880-6890 will do as well.

Sorry my mistake I just seen "hardware issues" under description and choose tech support. My bad.

When I am dl through bit torrent I get the yellow icon (firewall present) and also what is with all the "Windows Messanger" popups I am getting now? people are spaming me via windows messanger can I even shut that off? I hope so or I might have to dig out Windows 98 SE CD. Other than the fact Windows 2000 has no blue screens I think win 98 was better.

Yes, you can terminate Windows Messenger (not to be confused with MSN Messenger)
without problems. It's a service, so just go to Control Panel -> Admin -> Services to
stop this service and configure it so that it won't start on boot (trust me, this has no
bad effects, as it's a service you can live without).

The weird thing is though, that I don't think you should be able to receive those
Windows Messenger spam unless some kind of port-forwarding is already setup
(unless you got only them when the modem was directly on your PC).

Thanks for the tip and yes It only occures when the Modem is directly connected to my PC. I never got them when I was behind the router. I can't believe how far spam goes, the worst part is most said they were from microsoft (not true I checked)

Thanks again
