WTF is an OGG file? lol

I DLed a whole batch of one series and its in an OGG file type (*.ogg)
What is this and what do I do with it?

Ogg is a container like avi. See the media configuration guide for playback help.

.ogg is also sometimes used instead of .mp3's for OST's for anime! personally, i think it's just as good or maybe better than mp3's!
