A thread to compare Naruto and Sasuke's take on revenge after Jiraiya's death or if he learns somehow that Madara is also responsible for his parent(s?)'s death? We have had discussion about it somewhere but nothing formal so why not? Do you think you can make an OP that isn't going to make half the forum grind their teeth?
In fact I think james3wk is right and more general thread, including Shika's revenge as well for example, would be a better idea. Anyone feeling like making the opening post?

Revenge is an interesting topic to discuss when speaking of the Naruto storyline. Indeed, many characters have sought revenge, and most have met with failure. Naruto sought revenge against Sasuke for leaving the village, and vowed to bring him back. This continuing storyline has seen Naruto consistently meet with disappointment as his goal goes unfulfilled. He has sought revenge through other people as well, in an attempt to realize his goal however, each attempt has been in vain, as he has succeeded nowhere.

Sasuke's revenge against Itachi, for killing his family, has resulted in a mixed sort of relief. Now that his revenge has been realized, he's been taken, yet again, by another person to learn of new things regarding the events of that fateful day. What he will learn or hear, we do not know, but we can probably safely assume that it will, once again, rekindle his thoughts for revenge against yet another person who had a hand in the death of his clan. Be that Madara, or some other unknown Uchiha, it seems as though Sasuke is going to have yet another rival to best in order to see his complete revenge come to fruition.

Others, throughout the story, have sought revenge in there own way, on their own time. Chiyo sought revenge against Sasori and, though she may have succeeded, met her death in the process. Gaara sought revenge against his father, but was never able to see that dream realized, as his father was killed by Orochimaru. Speaking of which, Orochimaru sought revenge against the Third (and visa versa), and though both may have felt as though they succeeded in one form or another, both met with unfortunate circumstances following their encounter.

In fact, as far as I can recall, it is only Shikamaru who has met revenge successfully, and that revenge has still had its own drawbacks. Though we've seen little to nothing from Shikamaru following his encounter with Hidan, I think it is safe to assume that he has been dealing with a score of emotional problems following the loss of his sensei.

I wonder, then, if revenge isn't something that would ultimately be of detriment to these ninja. Is revenge a goal they should continue to pursue? Is is an idea worth fighting, or dieing, for? Being as how most of the ninja, who have pursued revenge, have ended up with little to no closure regarding the situation, I wonder if revenge is not something that should be forgotten about all together.

Kakashi spoke of this early in the series, but his words have gone largely unheeded. Should the ninja continue to pursue revenge, or is it an idea that should be abandoned in place of others, such as survival, friendship, security, and the like?

Feel free to edit it in any way you see fit, or indeed to nix it all together. I took a shot in the dark...hopefully I hit something near what I was supposed to be aiming for.

Many people, myself included, have put many of these characters to the test here. Indeed, many who have done so are continuing to do so (I'm trying, but I'm at a bit of a roadblock at the moment). If you'd like to put some characters you enjoyed to the test, you should feel free to do so. Though, I would suggest asking permission of the authors of those characters before you do, as many people who have created characters have also created accompanying stories.

In the current chapter Madara says to Sasuke that he didn't really know Itachi. So i think we should wait until we get the whole picture with all the flashbacks and stuff. Then we might have a decent "tribute thread", until then it's pointless to discuss what has already been discussed many times in chapter threads and many other threads.

There are quite a few people now who create characters and this would only benefit anyone who entered by having do their best to make a character, helping them to do better and excel. Here's what the entry phase post would look like.

This thread is for submissions into the Character of the Month contest.
Contest Rules are as follows:
1. Every contest will have a theme. Each contestant must abide by the theme. Themes cannot be picked twice in a row.

2. Every Character Must be put in spoiler tags. This is to save space.

3. Contest submissions begin on the first day of each month. The entry period will last until two weeks from that date.

4. On the day after the submission date, a poll will open and it will last for one week. When the poll closes, the winner will be allowed to choose a theme for the next contest.

5. The next contest will not begin until the first of the month, when submissions are allowed once again.

6. Only one official submission per contestant. You may create up to three characters, but you are only allowed to enter one. Failure to decide on one character by the deadline will result in immediate disqualification for that months contest.

7. You are allowed to wait until the final day to turn in your entry. If you wish to keep your entry private until the day the poll opens you can request it in the submission thread or by private message to the organizer.


This months entry period officially starts (Date) and lasts until (Date). Entries will be gathered and put up for voting on (Date). Voting will end on the following Sunday.***






Entries can either be private messaged or posted in the submission thread. The submission thread can also be used to post works in progress to gather feedback from other posters. You do not have to post your entries in the thread if you don't wish to (for those who want to be private about what they are working on), until the last day of submissions. The whole idea is to promote quality entries but it's not required to submit early if you are confident in your entry but want to keep your submission secret until the due date.

I will periodically update the thread to keep track of the names of all contestants and list those names here. Those who wish to keep entries private until the due date should still inform me they are entering so I can keep track of who is competing.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to post them here or private message me, I'll do my best to answer.


***A few notes about due dates and other "stuff"***
The due date ends at 11:59 (midnight basically) UTC/GMT. The polling will be up one day later after 11:59 (again, midnight). I will try to be as lenient as I can with last minute submissions but only slightly.

Gonna have to put my name in the hat for this one as well. Lots of time goes into creating these characters, and it'd be very interesting to see which ones people enjoy the most. Plus, it helps the creative process, as people learn what others enjoy and don't enjoy about their characters.

Sorry for the delay, I mistakenlys thought White Manju Bun had already answered to this I don't know why...
I don't see the need for yet another thread about characters creation to be honest, if you want a to see the popularity of your creations wouldn't the Fan Creation forum be a better place for that anyway?l

I have a theory in The Manga 397 thread. pg 3 post45. I want to have that at the beginning of a new thread that is worth discussing - What is Madaras plans for Sasuke. Obviously that wont be the title because of the spoilers in it. I think a Moderator could just cut and past my theory into the new thread or talk PM me if they want me to go ahead with it.
