Rigging is just another fancy word for excessive campaigning now, come on.

Anyways, if anything, I feel that Tomoyo can go a long ways, or at least on par with the top KyoAni characters.

not rigging just too much "against votes"

i do wonder what the saimoe organizer will do or if they will even do anything about it. Last years final was less exciting then 2 or 3 of the pervious contest.

And at least this year you won't have to choose between gina-sama and feito-chan.

I can never understand moe tournaments. Not to discredit those of you who work so hard for it, but I just don't understand the fulfillment that people get from these things. It all just seems like mindless entertainment, and if that's all you're doing for, no problem. It's just that the characters that win these things are just the most popular characters of said nature, and in fact I don't think it promotes the idea of watching these different animes like some of you may think. For a small faction it may give people the heads up on series out there, but I would guess that the voters stick their votes to the series they've seen mainly, which tend to be the more popular ones out there, and the characters who get nominated for this tend to be the ppular ones anyhow. I think it stagnates anime viewer ship actually.

The answer is easy. If you look around places like 4chan or random animeblogs that covers the event, you get clash of egos ("my fandom/mo IS better than YOURS!"), people gloating over characters' defeat, other celebrating one victory. One can claim that last Saimoe was higurashi fans' victory because Rika won, others, like anonymous, will reply that Saimoe 2007 was THEIR victory because none from Lucky*Star or KyoAni anime have made it to the finals, another would argue that it's their victory because the final was NOT Rozen/Nanoha, and the list goes on. In the end, it boils down to anonymous peons that just want to rub people's face with their e-penises.

Well...if I had to pick between this or some TV singing (DRAMA) wannabe contest, guess what my choice would be

Against votes are a dumb idea if you ask me. Instead of having a clean fight, there has to be some who are always thinking about tactics "better kill X before she reaches Y" scenario being the most obvious one.

The contest would be so much better if it is just a straight forward "vote for your favorite for that round" ~ but the internal conflicts that comes out pretty much ruins everything with "anti this and that".

And yea...I'm spared from making that decision (and I know that god is cruel enough to pitch them in the first bracket together even if gin sama could qualify this time round).

Rika - 2007 Saimoe Champion and biggest Dark Horse since Chiakru-sama in 2006. She did very well in 2007 but if she gets a unlucky draw early, Rika will most likely take a early Exit.
They're eligible?
YES!
Thank you Oyashiro-sama!

Nagi > Shana was bigger in my opinion.
And she's not a tsundere.

She won Korean Best Moe 06-07, but never a SaiMoe.

However popular shows have not always done well in Saimoe. One of the biggest question of 2008 Saimoe will be how well the Eva girls will do with the voters. Rei was one of the foreunners of silent moe and Asuka was tsundere before tsundere became a otaku vocalbulary. Misato has always been popular with her beer guzzling, soft and hard side all roll in one. It will be very interesting in seeing they will do.
I'm sure that the Evangelion girls will be pretty popular, though they probably won't get very far because of hate-voting in later rounds.

Key-KyoAni only stands a chance at tournaments like ISML where a majority of the viewers are outside and the voting population is overoveroveroversaturated with KyoAni fans.

Her last appearance was what... 2000?
That's just seven years short of the time period.

hahaha.
Oh rly? I forgot that almost all subjective contests involving votes of any kind are popularity contests.
Presidential elections?
Whoever's more popular and has more support.
SaiMoe?
Whichever character is least hated.
ISML?
KyoAni.

I'm not even running one, but the mindless entertainment is enough for me. Besides, it's not like I'm too busy to participate. It gives me something to do, really.

Actually, I can claim that ISML improved my Photoshop skills by a good margin. There's a difference between studying Photoshop in school and playing around with Photoshop to produce something you want.

Actually, sometimes it is, though rarely.

Aso, at least said activities will only make you facepalm over the general lack of skill in the majority of the performers (much less towards the end of American Idol), instead of having you angered over Tomoyo's win over Shana and Hinagiku.

Yes, thank you for pointing this out, I don't know what I would do without your wisdom... My point is that because a contest is like this, it doesn't really make most people watch more anime. I only see it as something for fun, and hey I like to toss in my votes here and there in these things myself as it is fun. The reason I posted such a thing was because I once read a post by minhtam where he claimed that one big purpose of these tournaments was to promote anime that would otherwise not be watched. That is all.

You're listening to Minhtam Nguyen, who hasn't seen about half of the series in which the characters of SaiMoe appear.

Sakura appeared in Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations.
Spoiler for Sakura:

I'm pretty sure OVA characters are eligible.

Anyway there are too many old characters this year it seems. Frankly I mainly care about Night Wizard and Nanatsuiro Drops but it seems most people have written them off.

Of course Yako from Neuro probably won't make the knock out rounds. (Yes I think she's moe).

I hope Nadeshiko wins the joke round though.

That's interesting though, two CLAMP Sakuras.

Yeah, you won't have much luck with that.
I had forgotten that I had tried an episode of Night Wizard when it first aired until now, too.
Wow.

And to be honest, if I see Code Geass characters pretending that they're moe, I will find me a moe army and crush them or whatever.

More often than not, there is always a hidden side to any contest, ie they are never as "clean and innocent" as the seem on the surface

(YEA! mai waifu beats yours! *taunts*).

What's to pretend? They are naturally moe...

Given anything, I would take the natural moeness from Code geass than forced moeness from Lucky Star (Tsukasa especially).

The thind is that they're not clean on the surface. Even in a minor tournament like ISML, there's clear hating (a lot from me), and in SaiGAR, there was even more due to the heavy proxy voting.

The thing is that their moe is just... nonexistant.
The reason they progress in the tournament at all is from series popularity, which is why they don't progress as far, since it plays a much smaller factor in Japan than it does outside (SaiGAR, ISML, etc.)

Forced moe is exactly what a moeblob is about. Lucky Star was ingenious in that it was able to parody moeblobs and still include one in its cast. Of course, it still doesn't make Tsukasa "truly moe", though she fakes it much better than Mikuru does.
