What about her motives for seducing Saito-who,alone,defetead 70000 people(how long will we have to wait before seeing it translated at baka tsuki,i'm wonder...)was she jealous of Louise and was she after his power-when i say jealous i mean to have someone so strong protecting her?
Probably late this week, if you are referring to "A place of courage" I already had it about 50% done and the other 50% is just the cleanup aftermath.
Argh... Finally read the 14th volume.
I know the main things have been spoiled, but anyways, I wrote up a detailed summary of the novel. If you want, read it. I tried not to miss anything important, but fatigue kind of overcame me near the end, so the last few parts might feel rather cut. Tehe~
Spoiler for summary:
The volume starts near the place Joseph lived. A young soldier was talking to an old soldier. He was thinking about how the *insert name* group seemed to have revolted. When he told the old soldier, the old man told him that he thinks this was all planned by Joseph. Believing the man, the young soldier was surprised, but he didn’t have much time to think as a hooded man appeared. The young solider pointed his wand at the man, telling him to lower his hood. Upon doing so, the man was revealed to be Vasso Castelmal. The man being a famous person, the young soldier lowered his wand. When Vasso asked to pass without having to be asked for permission, the young soldier denies and tells him a sign is enough. Before he could do anything, Vasso knocks the two soldiers out.
It is revealed that Vasso and his group, the East Rose Knights, have finally decided to overthrow Joseph. They also plan to have Charlotte rise to the throne afterwards.
They sneak in, and begin their attack.
Inside, Joseph was listening to his orgal. Immersed, he was waving his hands like a conductor. There, a subordinate rushes in, telling him of the rebellion and asking him to hurry and escape. However, Joseph continued listening to his orgal. Finally, he realized there was someone talking to him. Hearing the situation, he stood up and waited… for Vasso’s group to arrive.
When they came in, they pointed their wands at him and told him what they plan to do to him, but all he does is turn around and say he is going to sleep. Angered, Vasso and his group try to seize him, but Joseph suddenly disappeared. So suddenly, the armed knights instinctively launched their spells, damaging the stuff in the room. They then realized he was now outside, somehow.
Vasso continued to underestimate Joseph and creates an ice spear. However, movement caused his aim to fly off. Next thing he knows, the ceiling collapsed, burying everyone inside alive. Watching this, Joseph laughed loudly.
This was his “Explosion” spell. Taking out his orgal and censer, he orders a survivor to gather people, drag out the corpses, and hang them on the gate of Ryutis. Before the soldier leaves, he requests a bed to sleep on.

The party is about to head to Aquileia. However, they had not left yet. They were all waiting for Saito. As the group started coming up with ideas why he isn’t here yet, Louise and Tiffania appear, wearing the priestess outfits. When they ask where Saito was, she says he returned. When they ask if to the academy, she said his home. They ask if it was his own will, she said it wasn’t. As the Undines starting getting fussy again, Henrietta stops them. She walks off, and they quietly follow.
On the boat, Louise is still praying. Tiffania was watching her, feeling both happy that Saito can go home and lonely that her friend is gone. There, Stupid Queen and Emo Swordswoman enters. Henrietta tells her to lift her head. After she tells Louise that she will ask about Saito later, she leaves to calm the Undine. Entering her own room, she got on her knees, looked out the window, and cried. She realized how much she had depended on Saito, and how hard she worked him. She had been wrong the whole time, and they have to go on by themselves. After all, she is the Queen.
The group arrives at Aquileia. The boat sprays the awaiting civilians with water, but those masochists gladly got sprayed. This water was also considered holy water. Everyone disembarks. Loud cheering follows. When the Pope appears, everything grew silent. After he waves, the crowd erupted with cheers.
Now, everyone involved with the plan were in a meeting, discussing the plan. They had all plans ready to prevent an assassination. There, Tiffania asked about the possibility Gallia would send an army. Henrietta immediately dismissed the possibility, but Julio says it was 50-50. Realizing the damn Pope want to fight a battle, Henrietta shouted angrily at him. He said that he wasn’t starting the fight, Gallia was. Henrietta stands up and says that she has promised not to use Louise as a tool of war, and tries to leave with Louise. However… Julio reveals to her that Louise has pledged to them. Feeling tired and powerless, Henrietta started asking the Pope about stuff. In the end, the Pope calmly answers everything. Louise leaves the meeting, saying she didn’t feel well.
In her room, Louise continued to pray. Shortly after, she visits Tiffania. But before she could say much, Henrietta also comes in. Both Tiffania and Henrietta ask why she returned him, but she replied that this was happiest for him. She asks Tiffania to erase her memories. Both of the girls were shocked, but Henrietta soon closed her eyes and asked Tiffania to do so as well, probably thinking back to her own pains of losing Wales.
As Tiffania chanted, Louise slowly went through her memories. She thought that now, she really was going to be void, like her name. The light of Void flashes, and disappears.

Waking up, Saito found himself on a plain somewhere. Looking around, he sees someone heading toward him. He tries to grab Derflinger, but then he remembered he wasn’t carrying him. When they reach him, it seems they had already found him before he woke up and brought him water. The female introduces herself as Sasha. Taking off her hood, Saito realized she was an elf. After a bit of talking, it seems it was rare for people to know who she is. Not only that, but she didn’t know what Halkeginia is. Remembering Joseph, Saito screamed out. He tries to explain to Sasha when she asks.
Rain started falling, so Saito and Sasha hid under a tree.
As it rained, Saito and Sasha remark how it feels like they have seen each other before. Soon after, wolves appeared. When Sasha grabs her shortsword, causing her left hand to flash. There, Saito realized she was Gandalf. Quickly, he shows her his rune too. She hand him a sword too, and they cut down the poor wolves. In all of this, Saito was very confused at the happenings.
After the wolves disappeared, a mirror materialized. Out came a blond-haired male, who started apologizing.
Sasha started hitting the man… telling him to stop using her for his experiments. When the man finally realizes Saito, he introduces himself as Brimir. Finally, Saito realized he had been sent back in time.
Through shock, he collapsed on his knees.

The memorial ceremony for the third year of enthronement has begun. The Undines are desperately trying to keep the crowd orderly. However, rabid fans > Undine, and they started getting beat up. Finally, a Paladin arrives and scares the crowd into obedience. It was the same person who attacked them when they first came to Romaria. He started making fun of them, and then realizing Saito was missing. He started making fun of Saito as well, but Guiche mentions Saito’s stand against Albion, stopping him.
He tells them to patrol town.
In the corner of the plaza, Guiche and co. were just sitting there.
-they talk about Saito
-they talk about Gallia. When Guiche mentions an elf, the group started running away, but the returned after Guiche reminded them they were nobles.
Drinking time.
Back to Louise, she was greeting the passing Pope. After losing her memories of Saito, she had become entirely devoted to the Pope and his idiotic religion. Soon after, the Undine appear in strange clothes and kidnap both girl and force them to ride on gondolas. There, they realize Louise doesn’t remember Saito. Suspecting Tiffania, Guiche orders the group to tie her up. Louise was being loud, so she got tied up too. However, Tiffania said she didn’t do anything to Louise, so the group started tickling her with feathers. When her breasts were about to be groped, she gives up. Guiche tries to remind Louise of Saito, but in the end, she just stared blankly at him. They get off the gondola. Staring at Louise’s back, Tiffania wonders if what she did was right. She shed tears, but Louise, who saw that, thought she was crying because of the mean Undines.
At night, Ostrant arrived at the city with the Tiger tank. It had taken 20 wind mages to carry it here. Inside the tank was Kirche and Tabitha. Julio greets the group. When Colbert asks where Saito is, Julio says that he is currently on a journey. Watching Julio and Colbert, Kirche felt that there was something suspicious…
--
At that time…
Saito was brought to Brimir’s village. He was still finding it hard to believe that the great Brimir lived in such a place. Once again, Brimir asks Saito where his master is, but when Saito says he was from the future, the two laugh. Next, Brimir explains that he carved Gandalf onto Sasha’s hand. Gandalf means “Child who controls magic”. Next, a child comes in. when she started chanting magic, Saito asks if they were nobles. Confused, Brimir explains that they are the Magi Race, so it was obvious they could use magic. Right then, the Valiyarg, feared by all, attack the village.
Going outside, he finds an enormous armored army waiting for them. As Brimir began to chant Explosion, the enemy army launched a rain of arrows, which was blocked by the wind mages protecting them. After a second rain of arrows were blocked, the enemy charged with their spears. The two Gandalfs rushed to meet them. In the middle of battle, Saito knocked off the helmet of one soldier, finally realizing that they were all humans, despite being so agile in the armor.
Brimir completed his spell and swung his wand. In a flash, the battle ended. The enemies at the front line, and Saito, were blasted onto the ground. The remaining enemy retreated.
Brimir and Sasha carry Saito back to the village. Quietly, to himself, Saito knew that one day, Brimir would die fighting elves. Of course, he didn’t tell him.
At the village, Brimir opened a gate for the villagers to past through. Feeling nostalgia and uncertainty that what lies ahead might be the holy land, Saito entered the gate.

At Tigress Grand Route, passage was being blocked. No one knew why either. However, at that moment, a group carrying giant golems flew past them towards Romaria…
On Gallia’s “Charles Orlean”, the men were wondering about what they were going to do. After a transmission with Romara saying that they wish to escape to Romaria, they prepared to attack. However, Romaria knew what was coming, so they did not put their guard down. But when the attack order was given, no cannons fired. It seems the ones controlling that area had rebelled. The commander wanted to suppress them, but Sheffield appears and tells them to stop here.
One by one, the huge armed Jormungants landed onto the ground…
Watching the landing golems, the foolish Romaria army advances as well, full of confidence thanks to their Cannon Turtle Soldiers.
Confidently, the Romaria army watched and waited for the golems to fall in range… However, when the golems got close and they got a good look, their expressions turned to fear. They fire the cannons, but it did no damage to the golems. In panic, the army tried to run. The golem fires its own cannon, annihilating the army.
Back in Aquileia, Henrietta was frozen in shock. In the end, a battle has started. When she saw the damn Pope, she rushed over, kept herself from slapping him, and started shouting. In return, he does his usual word play, revealing that he was fully planned to fight in the first place. Rallying his troops, he announced that this was a “crusade”. As roars filled the temple, Henrietta fell onto the floor, as the mad battle was about to begin.
--
Louise, dressing as a priestess as usual, appears in front of the Holy Lutia Temple, where the Pope starts introducing her as “Aquileia’s Saint”. Beside them, Tiffania and Henrietta stood paled.
As the damn Pope starts his damn speech about damn crusades, Louise remembered the past, where she succeeded through Void. There, her heart started hurting. She was laid on a bed, with Henrietta and Tiffania beside her. When Louise said that it felt like a hole had opened inside her, Henrietta told her it was the love that could not be pointed at. Of course, Louise did not understand. Recovered, Louise headed out again, leaving Tiffania, who was crying in the corner, and Henrietta, who began to think of a way to end the war she could not prevent.
Along with the Undine, there were two Paladin squads also assigned to protect Louise and allow her chanting time. Meanwhile, while they wait on Gallia’s incoming forces, a long conversation with crazily religious Louise, the Paladins, and the Undines made them realize that the old Zero no Louise was better and that if Saito didn’t appear, she would have turned out like this.
After a bit of fighting, the army started advancing. This time, no one ran. After all, they are nobles.
In a room in Aquileia, Saito woke up. Beside him, Julio greeted him.
After Saito talks about his dream, Julio reveals that the battle against Gallia had already started. Panicking, Saito rushed to the door, but it was locked. Julio opens the door, Saito finds the World Gate waiting for him. The Pope also appears, and they press for an answer as to whether he will pass through or not. Saito says there is no way he could while Louise was fighting, but even so, he was attracted to the door. In one eye, he saw Louise. In the other eye, he saw his mom..
He stays. Relieved, Julio lowered his handgun. Saito asks for his sword and spear. When Julio answered, Saito realized everything had been planned by these two.
Saito tells Julio that he will beat him up later.
Julio smiled.
Saito punched that face and sent him flying.
He asks the Pope to open a small, finger-sized gate.

At Sheffield’s side, the Jormungants were running out of ammo and energy. To solve the problem, the Jormungants used each other to jump up and sink the enemy ships. Then they ripped the ship apart and used its materials to reload.
On the other side, the Undine were ready to fight too. After looking at the on-going air battle, the boys began to attack the golems to catch its attention. When it shot a blast from its cannon, the boys’ wind magic deflected it. Finally, when the golem started chasing them, they used “Fly” and drew its attention while running away.
Sheffield commanded her Jormungants to charge. She was burning with jealousy, for the bond between Louise and Saito was far more than anything she had with Joseph. No matter what, she wanted to crush those two.
Louise had completed her spell. As the Undine flied by, she unleashed her Explosion.
…
However, it caused no damage. After the previous battle, the Jormungants were further strengthened. Scared, the pathetic Paladins ran. Guiche tells Louise to run to, but she stubbornly stood and tried to cast another spell, only to be blown away by the shockwave of a sword hitting the ground. She retrieves her wand, but two Jormungants were very intimidating. Sheffield started taunting her and talking about Saito. Once again, Louise started feeling pain once more. She started seeing a shadow. Before she knew it, she was calling Saito for help. The moment she was about to be trampled…
With a large sound, the golem lost its leg and toppled. The other golem hid.
The Undines, who had been watching for a chance to save her, rescue her. She had fainted.
2 leagues away, Saito and co. were in the Tiger tank. After aiming and shooting the hiding golem’s head, they proceeded. Seeing hope, the Romarian army cheered.
The tank proceeds onwards. After greeting the Romarians…
Next, 6 more golems attacked. However, their cannons did no damage, and in return, one by one, all 6 crumbled. Sheffield, losing her calm, orders the remaining golems to charge, unaware that such a thing was a suicidal act.
--
The Undines cheered.
Gimuri placed Louise on the tank, where Saito stroke her cheeks.
Slowly, Louise opened her eyes. When she realized what he was doing, she jumped off in anger. Here, Saito learned that Louise’s memories of him were erased. He became angry, but upon Guiche’s words, he realized how much she thought of him.
Mah, anyways, they start arguing and shouting, and Saito kept on blabbering about the past events like the boat or cat suit. Finally, he kisses her, allowing her memories to return. Malicorne interrupts their romantic moment, snapping them back to reality.
There were still enemies remaining.
There were two golems left. One tried to shoot a cannon, but Saito destroys it.
The last one came from above, holding a barrel of gunpowder. But a wind dragon appears, grabs it, and throws it, causing it to blow up by itself.
--
After the golems fell, the remaining Gallians retreated. Saito told Louise about the two Romanian bastards’ plan.
They also realized that…
-the dream Saito had was a memory stored in the rune
-Louise’s memories had not returned, but instead, his memories entered her. What a bond!
There were some embarrassing memories and delusions, but most of all, disgracing ones… As the Undines watched and the Paladins cheered at victory, Louise stomped on Saito.
Dear Mom.
It might be surprising, but this is Saito. I am really sorry I left home without saying anything. No, I didn’t really leave without saying anything……, but since you won’t understand if I say anything, I will leave it at that. Anyways, sorry.
Thank you for the mail.
Thank you for worrying about me.
Just now, I saw your face a little. You looked a little worn out, so I felt sad.
Are you eating properly? It might not pass your throat from the stress, but please eat properly.
I am alive.
I am safe, so do not worry.
Right now, I am in a different world from Earth.
I don’t think you will believe me, but it is the truth. It wouldn’t be strange if you thought I went crazy…… but it is the truth.
There, my friends and precious people are in big trouble.
And also, my power is necessary.
That is why…… I cannot return yet.
But, I will return one day.
I will return with a gift.
That is why, please do not worry.
Give my regards to Dad and everyone else.
I am very sorry I could not contact you. I am rushing while writing this.
Thank you, Mom.
Thank you very much.
Thank you for worrying.
It is pretty troublesome, but I am happy.
Thank you for giving birth to me.
Well then, until later. Hiraga Saito.
Spoiler for thoughts:
Uooooh! The ending was so worth reading through the whole book. So sad and emotional... *cry*
As for the whole book, it was Zero no Tsukaima quality. Very good. However, that is mostly because of the twists and exciting moments. The part were Louise regains her memories was blunted by the comedic atmosphere, so I didn't really get much. In the end, it was the end that stood out. Loved it to bits. God, I hope Saito returns back home. More importantly, he is going to have to repeat a year of school, isn't he?
The book had plenty of moments that made me go "Well, how typical", as various events just felt so sudden. However, everything was decently explained, so I guess I will let it slide. I don't want to question much anyways.
---
Character thoughts:
Saito - Nothing new, here, really. Though I give him points for punching Julio. As time tells, we will see if he really goes back home. It would definitely be a bittersweet end, but it works really well, I feel.
Louise - Amusingly, crazy fanatic Louise was really funny. Yaah, truly funny seeing her act like the perfect pawn. Amazing what pride and over-confidence and etc. can do.
Henrietta - Putting aside the various comments that she could be some mean manipulator... I personally thought differently. The possibility she is such a thing lowered in this volume, like when she cried or was enraged. Anyways, it seems she cares for her friends quite a lot, so I don't think she will be the final boss or anything.
Joseph - Madman. The end.
Sheffield - Yes, yes, girl in love. Don't feel a bit sorry for crazy Sheffield.
Julio/Pope - Die! Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Di e!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die!Die! Die!
My hate for these two have been completely established. They ruined the chance for Saito to go back home, played around with words and tried to act like they are not the wrong ones (like saying that the one who started the fight was Gallia, not them), able to do everything without feeling a thing, etc.
Undine - Great guys. Yeah... Ever since volume 8, Guiche and the pointless characters have been getting better and better. Guiche even finally understood what Saito meant about not dieing just for honor and such.

Rambling thoughts:
Ok... So Brimir did exist, and he seemed like quite the nice guy. So, the possibility that Brimir was something evil was probably gone.
Yet, it seems from 6000 years ago, Elves had had a distaste for humans and Void.
I can reason "humans" quite well. Simply something called "discrimination".
Yet, why Void? The question is left as to why the Elves call Void "Satan's power". And the gate to the Holy Land as "Satan's Gate". Upon his decent, a great catastrophe occurred. Why did that happen? Why did he fight the Elves?
Typically, the Elves would be the "right" ones, since they are so "good" and everything.
Perhaps, later in the future, Brimir fell to the dark side?
Some other force like the Valiyar caused the destruction?
Perhaps, it is some mere reason like Void uses forces that oppose senjyuu magic to activate or something?
His decent was when he became famous? Then why did that=disaster?
Could all of this simply be discrimination or some selfish Elf reason?
--
Final thoughts:
Siesta didn't make a single appearance.
Those priestess outfits are amusingly attractive... The revealed skin and all...
It seems the novel can still go a few volumes... Hah...
And so, perhaps we head toward the finale, as the "crusade" continues. There is no turning back, the two realize! Onward, to the suppression of Gallia! I think.
And some Siesta, please, next time
Someone asked why the Elf Gandalf was so scantly dressed. I believe no one really answered.
It was because rain drenched her hood/outfit so she took it off. So that was her undergarments.
Hah, time to wait for the next volume. Actually, take your time. I have to many novels to read, so any more is crushing. Ah-ah, I'm tired. Stupid Summer heat...
To clarify,Henrietta is fully capable of being a geniunly caring, friendly and maternal queen, if Saito and Louise do not leave her side and pursue the "return home" quest. Henrietta has showered Saito with fame and glory, not so much rich because she's actually personally not very well off as a queen, in an effort to temper Saito's desire to return home. She seems to have various reasons to keep Saito around, be it emotion, power, or some other unknown related to void...
For future reading, a simple Litmus test would be to see if Henrietta works against Saito from returning home. If she gives her blessing and not interfere-> simple character, naive, etc all that jazz. Otherwise, if she stands in the way-> "final boss".
Also, there is a very good literary reason for Henrietta being the "last boss." It would be it is a very delicious twist that I am not sure if the author can resist not going down that path. It will be boring if once the "big bad" is defeated-> "the end." She doesn't have to be the biggest boss to be the final boss. Plus, there's already ample build-up for that.
For 6000 years they never developed advance tech at all?? >_>
Sad, isn't it.

Oh, she's capable of being a caring, friendly and maternal queen even if they leave her side. For instance, in this volume, Saito left, but she still treated Louise kindly and the others as well. She was shocked, but she accepted it.
While that is a "possibility", it could simply be because she wanted to give him an reward, for the Albion incident. There was good reason she gave him power.
so they have a laptop in that time? lol my main concern now, is why he's even debating on leaving to his world when everybody knows he love louise lol...you know he wont leave unless its with her to lol...
No, when he was sucked into the Zero no Tsukaima world, his laptop (from Japan) was sucked in with him. There are no laptops originating in Halkegania.
One of the things mentioned by Julio in Vol 13 was that all the stuff coming from saito's world seem to be Instrument of death and those who use them. Mono planes, prop planes, even jet fighters and guns from the 1800s till late 20th century and of course tanks. A laptop could arrive but it wouldn't fit in with the theme of only weapons coming through the gates that the author set up.
That's a brilliant point, but the magic hasn't advanced all that much either. I mean in 6000 years...
To give perspective, 6000 years ago, there were cities, but they were so primitive there was almost no difference between living inside a "city" such as it was and living in stick huts out in the forest. Government, logistics and long-distance travel were unknown and nearly impossible to achieve. Essentially what I'm saying is that the author just had no concept of history and needed an impressive number.
Human technology has only been advancing at a rapid pace in recent years. Before then, technology never really improved quickly or rapidly.
Compare the life of a commoner living in the feudal ages with the lives of people living before then. They would have been almost similar, with only a few changes.
With society in Zero no Tsukaima revolving around magic, it would make sense that most people would be more interested in pursuing magic powers rather than set the foundations for scientific progress.
Imagine if a person from the early 1800s showed up. That person wouldn't have any technology different from what the Tristanians have already. They were still using ball shot muskets back then.
It appears that the magic wielding group of Brimir established rule over the other humans, and made it so that only members of their group can be nobles (thus the requirement to use magic rule). There doesn't appear to be any significant progress in the magic arts, so it's probably safe to assume that the land went through some dark age, and nobles were more keen on keeping their status than pursuing scientific endeavors. Only in recent times apparently do people like Colbert start showing up with magically guided arrows.
Colbert could make a killing with his new innovations.

There are lots of computers on the modern battlefield. It is still not inconceivable that one could make it there. Even someone's personnal computer left inside something like an APC. Anyway, what is true in the Novel may not be true in the anime. If that were so he would have his computer with him in the anime.
thanks serenade_beta for the preview of the 14 novel, and Darknemo2000 for the previews on baka-tsuki.
for the 14'th novel: that Pope needs a good kick in the .... .
i have to disagree with those who think that Henrietta will be the final villain boss. she sure aint a saint, but she never hold a gun at the back of her firends , like others did. she never really wanted to be a ruler, but forced by the outcome of things she is trying to be a Queen. because she is a rather weak character she will use whatever means she has avaibleto get things solved, and even bow to others that are more powerfull than her, altough she doesnt agree with them. surving as a Queen in a war thorn world isnt easy.
the novel cant end after defeating Joseph, thats clear. but the final villain could be the Pope, not Henrietta. he also wants to conquer the Holy Land, like Joseph, and he needs the Void user Jospeh, the same way he needs Saito , who he rather have shot than let go (yeah, those radical saints). thing is Joseph cant be controled as easily as Saito, so he must defeat him first (and for this he needs a full war with Galia), and than make him one of his followers. it will probably need all Void users to open that Gate to the "Holy Land", like Brimir did before and than that catastrophe happend. so , probably there will be more than just one new novel.
i wonder if we will get to see novel 14 in the 3'rd season of the anime, if so, i hope the battle with the Jormungants wont last only 5 minutes. 4'th season anyone?
