how to disable utorrent history cache?

not that I have anything to hide but I noticed that every time my antivirus scans the computer it goes through and checks all the old torrent files.

I personally do not like to save old torrents and remove them from utorrent after they are done seeding. however, this does not get rid of the back up file under 'user name/application data'
I deleted that folder once, but apparently all the utorrent personal settings are also kept inside there. the first time I opened that folder and saw thousands of torrents saved from over the past three or so years it was a little shocking
so is there any real way to disable this?

actually if you want a quicker way then all you have to do is right-click on the file you want to take off go to remove and and then select delete torrent which will take the .torrent file from µtorrent folder in application data and send it to the bin (and as far as I know µtorrent doesn't have a history cache since that folder in application data is where it stores all the active torrents) but then if you don't want to do all that then just do a bit of housekeeping every week or so when you've removed any torrents.

Can't you tell the antivirus scanner to exclude that directory from its scan? Or tell it not to scan .torrent files?

I don't think anti-virus scanners have the option to exclude certain file types. What's the problem with you're virus scanner scanning those files any way?

With a full-featured Antivirus program you should have that option. I use NOD32 and it allows extension exclusions as well as directory exclusions.

Why not just set it up so as the torrents are stored somewhere. I have it so all torrents are stored on my desk top in a folder called Torrent Store, when a torrent is finished it moves the torrent file to a folder called Finished. Periodically i simply open the finished folder and delete all the torrents within it. Simple as that

thanx for the replies

normally I just remove and delete data so I guess the problem is I need to select remove and delete data and delete .torrent.

if I skip scanning certain sectors of my hard drive then its not a 'full-system' scan anymore

so what you are saying is under preferences-> 'other' you have set up a new folder to store them? is it possible using the 'move to' option to select the recycle bin for completed torrents?
let me try lol
EDIT: not possible

You could just uncheck both "store" and "move to", I guess.

Sorry for posting in such an old thread but somebody might need it.

gui.default_del_action: This option tells µTorrent how it should remove torrent jobs when pressing the Remove button or Delete on your keyboard. Note that any value above 3 will cause the "Remove" button and the Delete button on your keyboard to do nothing in µTorrent. To be safer, you'd best be setting this option in the GUI through the toolbar method.

0 means "Remove"
1 means "Remove and delete .torrent"
2 means "Remove and delete Data"
3 means "Remove and delete .torrent + Data"
