The reason is... because that wasn't their first meeting. They had already known each other (not name though) for around a month.
Their first meeting went something like this...
1. Touma finds her trapped by delinquents (she must have a talent for getting trapped by delinquents...).
2. He tries to budge in.
3. She snaps at him for trying to get into someone else's fight (completely unreasonable reason)
4. She shocks him... tries to.
5. Doesn't work.
6. Surprised, she tries something else...
and we have the current situation of her trying to kill defeat him everytime they meet.

Thanks for that further clarification. Somehow, that seems more amusing than how it was depicted in the Index manga, perhaps even the Railgun manga. I can almost imagine Mikoto trying various things with the "That-didn't-work-either?" look on her face . In there(Index manga), it just was completely out of left field, so I hope the anime depicts it moreso like the novel or at least like the Railgun manga as I'm sure it wouldn't make sense the way the Index manga shows it.

She is. This is something more apparent in the Railgun manga which frankly, is rather endearing

The first part of the chapter covers Index and Touma living together... Lol, Index already has a adorable habit of calling out Touma's name for fun She does look like she's having fun huh The second part of the chapter is the introduction of Kaori and her leet sword 'trick', pwning Touma to Oblivion... Seriously, I'm surprised he's still alive after that, let alone use his arm again...


Btw, despite the english scan, I felt that there seems to be some inregularities in the conversation through the fight between Touma and Kaori, can serenade confirm?

One more thing, what does it mean for a Magician to reveal his/her magic name? Why doesn't Kaori want to reveal it?

Touma is starting to become a pretty cool and likable character

Now I'm really starting to fear for the anime

maybe its because of s_b's brainwashing, but something feels off about certain parts of the dialogue. Example,

pg 21/22, Kaori says "Do you want to protect Index?" and Touma says "What if I said 'no'?". Then she attacks him. That just doesn't make any sense. Why would she attack him if he had no intention of protecting her? Shouldn't it have been "What if I said 'yes'?". Perhaps I'm just missing something(it wouldn't be the first time >.>).

Anyway, I thought Touma would be pretty much invincible, since I was under the impression that EVERYONE who could fight would use some variation of magical or supernatural ability. Kaori whipped him up quite nicely(though to be honest, I had a hard time following what was going on action-wise :\). I guess against normal physical skills, he's not that tough .

So Kaori was Index's friend at some point. Guess that means she'll be joining Touma sooner or later. I also get the feeling that the next chap is going to be about how they met and became friends or something, but I hope it shows what Magnius is doing and how Touma's gonna catch up to him.

I would have thought Magnius got caught after he was defeated. Well, they didn't exactly show what happened to him after he got punched by Touma. That's kinda stupid to leave such a loophole in the story.

I also wanna say that Kaori reminds me of the Blue Gunner, aka Aoko Aozaki. Its the pants/shirt combination =_=.

Like last time, I tried to avoid pointing out the simpler mistakes that didn't really effect the story much.

Spoiler for mistakes/corrections... (lots of text):

Let me just point out, but it should be spelled "Stiyl", not "Steil".

Pg.12, top-right column:

Touma should be saying that he has no predicting abilities, not pretty accurate. Otherwise, why would he be laughing?

Pg.13, top-left:

The translations don't make sense, oi... He says "at least... on the surface" to how it seemed like everything was peaceful again.

Pg.19, bottom-left:

Touma doesn't say he has good tolerance, he says that she's treating him like one of those youngsters that snap too easily these days. Mah, overall the same thing, despite being different.

Pg.20, bottom-left:

Touma is thinking, in the translations, about how painful it must be fore Index to lose her memory. In reality, he's wondering how bad she was treated for her to lose her memories.

Pg.21, top-left

WTH?!
How did "No I'm not mad... at you" become the exact opposite...

*I'd wish the translators didn't use something like "asshole" in replacement of "baka"... Maa maa, rude people these days.*

---Start of Kaori vs. Touma conversation

Pg.23-24, bottom-left

In the translations, Kaori says "Do you want to protect Index?". She is supposed to say that she wants to take custody of Index before she has to name her magic name.
That explains the idiocy in the next page.

And this, because of that, page26 makes the repeated mistake.

Pg.27

For one thing, Touma just says "this woman", not the other thing that translated too.
In the last panel in the translation, Touma is wondering if it is just one time or if if he did not see correctly. In reality, he was saying that he couldn't even see the single slash.
You see, here, Touma is shocked that with one attack, Kaori unleashed several waves. Yet he still can't even see that one wave.

Pg. 31, bottom-right panel

Very sneaky, but the translator avoided putting in Kaori's sword's name, ShichitenShichitou...
Also, she says that she already used "Meisen". Which is, of course, wrong. For one thing, it isn't "Meison", but "Yuisen" Also, she does not say she used it. She says that if he did make it past Nanasen (the strings), he would have to face Yuisen, which is an attack using her actual katana.

Pg.34, bottom-right panel

In the translation, Touma is saying he thinks she thought he might be a robot. BUT THE TRUTH IS, he thought she was a robot, because she seemed so emotionless. But using his superman powers, he saw through facade. *beeeeeeeeeeem*

Pg. 35, bottom-right panel... again

Even with my intelligence, I have no idea what Touma is trying to say in the translation. He is supposed to say "If you wanted to, you could have killed me several times and took Index away... but you didn't."
Then, he is supposed to say "You really understand?", not "you think I'm stupid".

OK, the next thing is the bottom of pg. 35 to the top of 36, after "You really understand"
This is pretty much what is is supposed to be:
"Even though you have such amazing powers, you slashed a girl who had lost her memories. Why is it that you can only do that!!"

Ahh... I'm starting to get annoyed at this idiocy. Aaa...

Kaori says that she wanted to maintain the "kekkai of church" or something in the translation.
In reality, she says that she thought that the barrier of the "Walking Church" was still alive, and that is why she sliced at Index.

Yep, that's Touma's weakness.
1. Imagine Breaker is only from the wrist above of his right hand.
2. Physical attacks are unblockable. In this case, he tried stopping her Nanasen, which uses normal wire...

One more thing, what does it mean for a Magician to reveal his/her magic name? Why doesn't Kaori want to refer it?

A magic name is pretty much equal to a "killing name". If a magician names himself by his magic name, that means he plans to go all out/kill.
Kaori didn't want to kill Touma.

I've been thinking about it though; Despite the amazing ability to negate supernatural power, Touma is Severely limited/resticted in his use of it. I actually thought that it was have entire right arm, but only the hand portion? There not very effective outside the first time.

And these magicians aren't that weak, anyone could probably pinpoint his weakness in no time at all...

If his ability doesn't get stronger, as in spread to more parts, the only options I see is either for him to become physically stronger, or by making really good friends... OR, by wising up (alot) with his tricks.

(Somehow, it kinda reminds of how Yuji started out )

to s_b . It seems that quite a bit of the chapter was screwed up. If this happens next chapter, I'll just wait for the anime to come out. I guess I shouldn't be complaintive, since people are taking the time to translate it, but I just don't like it.

Its typical shounen ideaology that the protaganist gets more powerful over time. Not to say its on the same level as a typical shounen story, 'cuz its not. Regardless, even IF he only has Imagine Breaker throughout the manga, he'll have to use his ingenuity to win in battles. In that sense, it'd be similar to Kazuki from Mx0, and would be pretty interesting to see Touma in that regard(much like he did with Magnius).

that made me remember how the lead from Mx0 managed to live until the end of the series. I'm getting some Mx0 vibes from this especially how the male lead of TAMnI is percieved by his enemies(almost the same way as Mx0's)

Okay, now anyone was wondered why Mikoto got very pissed off at Touma, right?
Well, it figures, that in the light novel, Touma

actually saved the thugs from being deep-fryed by Miss Railgun, by purposely taunting and mocking them (so they change their target to Touma instead). Add that Touma had met her before (and not on friendly term(?)), it is quite understandable that Miss Railgun is genuinly pissed off.

Well, the translations SOUND(>.>) solid this time around, except Touma's last words at the end(well, there were no difficult conversations to begin with). Anywayz...

Spoiler for chap 7:

as I expected, a flashback chapter about Index and Kaori. I wasn't really excited to see it was about that at first, but it was actually pretty interesting. I thought Stiyl(sp?) was just another random henchman for Touma to eventually run over, so I didn't think he'd have THAT close a relationship to both Kaori and Index. This also effecitively blurs the line as to whether Neccessarius(i know i spelled it wrong >,<) is truly an enemy. Honestly I suspect that despite Kaori's and Stiyl's good intentions, there's a bigger enemy above that will take advantage of Index.

Also, I LOVED that determined look in Touma's eyes at the end. If I was a woman, my panties would be wet with excitement from seeing that. Grabbing her sword should put him at some kind of advantage. Plus he has that Shounen Manga Protaganist Power ability, so I can't wait til the next chapter to see how he'll topple Kaori(or win her over ).

Does no one find the last panel strange?
In the translation, she's saying that filling the brain even more is a way to forget things. And if such a possibility exists, the future events don't make sense either...
What I want to say is... the translation is wrong.

Pg.21, top-right:

...............Err...... Why did one bubble of screaming get completely erased?

Pg.21, top-left; bottom part:

Where Sityl goes "Can't stick around if too many promises are made"...
I understand how this was mistaken, but in this case, he should be saying that he can't handle it because it was so cliched...

Pg.29, bottom section, middle-panel:

Where Touma says "Are you serious that from start......"
He really says "Are you saying that it would be easier to be hated as an enemy from the start?"
Now that makes more sense...

Not "That's impossible", but "Are you stupid"... Which connects the bubbles...

I was just mentioning that Imagine Breaker was touching the sword. Without the novel's character thoughts, it doesn't really seem like something important. Mah, don't bother with thinking about it, I guess...
