He was shot down in fourteen wasn't he?

Could have sworn he got picked apart when they were going in to save Ranka.

Edit: Ah, yeah, he did get nailed pretty hard when he lost the dish. Probably as bad off as anyone had ever been.

LOL! Alto was the worst! In comparisson:

Micheal lost his plane x 1

Luca lost his gun x 2
Luca lost his dome x 1

Ozma badly damaged x 2
Ozma lost a wing x 2

Alto lost his arm x 2
Altos lost his leg x 1
Alto destroyed his paint job x 3
Alto lost his super armor x 1 (2 if you include the one at Galia 4 unless they wasted money to retrieve it)
Alto wrecked his reactive armor x 3 (2 of them were Michael's fault)
Alto lost his plane x 1

I imagine the hit Luca took was a bit more extensive than simply losing the dish. The way he seemed to have lost control implied he was more or less out of it.

Alto didn't just lose his plane, he did that to save Lucca's so it's quits. If Alto saved his plane, Lucca might have been killed and Lucca's Valk would be gone too. If he saved Lucca's Valk, he saved both Lucca and saved one plane, though not his. I say it should not go against his record.

A loss is a loss. Alto could have shot down all the enemies, freed Luca, and not have his bird blown to pieces. Plus he also saves Luca's bird. Win-Win situation. Instead, he sacrificed his VF to save Luca.

Okay, so the Vajra adapted to nukes by shedding their skin. So... why not hit them again? They can't have too many layers, and even if they can do some kind of instant regeneration, it would have to consume a huge amount of energy. They couldn't keep it up for very long.

Luca was kept in hospital for a while, probably to check for V-type infections since he'd been in the Vajra ship (and unconscious) for a while before Alto got to him.

Alto's had more parts blown off his Valkyrie than just about anyone else so far - Ozma lost one nacelle of his armor pack in 17, but ejected the rest and fought on. Alto keeps blowing off Super Packs, Armor Packs, and also loses a lot of his Valkyrie on a regular basis, on top of getting shot or forced down. Oh, and Brera had to rescue him the last few times.

Good thing Mr. Bilrer likes him - I'd hate to see the bill Alto's run up for repairs.

Sometimes they just charge into the Reaction Weapons and knock them aside for zero damage apparently =(

Alto's lucky this isn't Area 88. Or he'd be flying a VF0 by now.

This might be kind of old, but was there any mention of why Frontier doesn't use VF-19 and VF-22? I thought they were supposed to be the main fighters for NUNS, not the VF-171.

VF-19 Valkyries were being distributed to fleets and colonies and allied planets around 2046-47.

Macross Frontier is set at 2059. Almost 20 years after Shinsei Industry won the contract with the VF-19.

As can be observed with Macross 7 fleet's Emerald squadron (VF-19F and VF-19S) and Zola Galaxy Patrol (VF-19P).

Elite squadrons such as the one on the carrier Vahalla III (VFX) and VFX Ravens squadron of the Saratoga II utilize VF-19A Valkyries.

But it seems during 2047 colony fleets like Macross 7 opted the VF-17 as their mainline fighter while elite squadrons use the VF-22.

I think General Galaxy made the VF-17 cheaper and developed its successor the VF-171.

The VF-171 doesn't appear to have the beam weapon attachment for the gunpod like the VF-17. If they did Frontier NUNS wouldn't need Brera and his Antares squadron. Frontier NUNS has shown themselves as capable as the local SMS but for a bunch of cyborg foreigners to upstage them well..

The thing is before Isamu Dyson got exiled as a test pilot at New Edwards on Eden for project Supernova the YF-19 test pilots were either killed or maimed.

Meaning it was too high performance that it needed an ace level pilot.

Not everybody is an ace pilot. Not to mention how much a VF-19 cost. I feel sorry for Ray and Operation M as they will have to pay for the VF-19P Basara "rented" from Zola Galaxy Patrol.

I believe they were discussing about a new variant weapon based on what they've learned from the Vajra's biology.

Which makes sense, find out what makes it tick and use it against them.

Because Aimo Aimo is useless unless they have some weapon that can kill the Vajra and I'm beginning to suspect that they are going to grow immune to Ranka's singing (Or get used to it to the point that they don't just go wild when she starts singing).

Get just enough music recorded, plus song energy (or however that was suppose to work in Macross 7)...add a Sharon Apple style computer program....Song Bomb = no need for Ranka or Sheryl.

... you do remember that Sharon Apple went rogue, right? And that 'song energy' (anima spiritia) doesn't seem to necessarily work with recorded music, which (IIRC) is why Basara and company had to perform live to affect the Protodevlin? Besides which, the reason Ranka works on the Vajra is due to the way she's interfaced with them rather than the fact that she's singing at them... else Sheryl would've been up to the job of fighting the Vajra (she isn't right now) and there'd be no need for Grace to ditch Sheryl.

On top of which, it appears to be the whole 'idol' thing that affects most species, not the fact that there's sounds which make a pleasant melody...
