Actually, the main target is for male adolescents in middle-school and high-school as it is serialized on Shonen Magazine. The majority of the buyers for the manga tankoubons that are serialized in Magazine are in the age group 12-18.

Sorry, excuse my lack of English: what is "Card Captor Sakura gangbang?" Well, yes I know what "Card Captor Sakura" is, but what is "gangbang?" A gun fight?

Den'ei Shoujo (girls comes out of video) :: AiToma (girls comes out of PC screen)

Lots of people doing the nasty to Sakura & Co.

Ken used to draw CCS h-doujinshi before he worked on his other mangas.

But this isn't uncommon for mangakas'. CLAMP also drew h-doujinshi/yaoi stuff before.

Well, I won't draw you a picture, but a gangbang is the act of several male having sex at the same time with one female partner.

I admit that's what they claim and that's the target audience for that magazine. But you'll never convince me that all the people in line for his autograph aren't 24 year old college dropouts living with their parents and painting Shinobu dolls.

And yeah, I don't care if people start out with doujins. I like doujins. Oh!Great did lots of porn doujins before he started publishing hardcore hentai mangas, and he's my favorite artist (and I don't dislike his taste in stories, either... although I like many storytellers more). I'm pointing out that Akamatsu and friends did doujins representing the sexual acts of an 11 year old girl and her 11 year old friends and a bunch of faceless 30 year old men. Somehow I find the difference important. Maybe it's just me. (please note that the Akamatsu CCS doujin I saw didn't have the faceless 30 year old men, that was something else. I'm just grouping them all together to show my point about the loli-con genre in general. In other words, this paragraph is more directed at the loli-doujin scene than the discussion at hand).

edit: reread the post and saw that my last paragraph seemed to infer some things I didn't intend, so I attempted a clarification ~_~;

You shouldn't go visit the Gamefaqs boards

And no I wouldn't stand in line to get his autograph, but if it was Tomino on the other hand...and I do paint my mecha models

I hated the gamefaqs board ever since I stumbled into the Ippo fanboy discussions like last year. Good god, that place is a never-ending pit of stupidity.

Endless babble of why there would obviously have to be a 'second season'. As if there weren't already three seasons. Of course, that has come to haunt me once more, as I have people asking me daily if the anime and manga end the same way. That question is now a permanent ban on the SC channel, btw.

Well, of course. There are fanatics and there are the casual readers. The bookstore that I usually go to - a modest little store in Shibuya, had a pile of Negima Vol. 5 when it came out last Friday. Most of the buyers - which will surprise you, were middle and high school boys and interestingly, 20+ female office workers. Sure, I also think that most of the people that will be in line for his autograph would be the hardcore otakus (such as myself), but the majority of the readers have a casual life. Probably the best correlation that I can think for the States is the difference between the casual Star Trek viewer versus the hard-core Trekkers that I hear about. I assume that the majority of the Star Trek viewers just watch it for amusement whereas the hardcore fans goes to the extreme to visit conventions.

Ah, that's called "wakan" in Japanese.

hmm...I don't recall any of Akamatsu Ken's doujinshis under his circle name LEVEL-X or LEVEL-XX doing any ero-doujinshi about Card Captor Sakura. Perhaps it's from his collaboration project with the doujin circle Roriedou? But by the time Card Captor Sakura was in serialization, Akamatsu Ken was already a professional artist doing "Ai Toma" for Magazine FRESH. Any details?

Sorry, no details. I downloaded it off a doujin site and didn't bother keeping it since that's not exactly my taste. ^_^;

it's unfortunate, but almost no one EXCEPT the geeks watch star trek anymore on a regular basis hehe
actually, the best correlation would be...whaddya know? comics!
i dunno if this is true in japan (newspapers in the states are written at a 4th grade reading level whereas i've heard japanese newspapers have been known to come up with new kanji...i'm probably wrong tho) but almost every newspaper across the country has a "Funnies" section: about 2 (6 on sunday) pages of 1-4(the ones with 3 or more get 6+ panels on sunday) panel comics shown on a daily basis. A lot of people who pick up newspapers read the "Funnies"(this is actually a pretty archaic word, but "comic" is much too broad) along with reading the paper. Children will sometimes pick up the paper just for the funnies, as well as some adults (which is really funny to watch them toss away about 50+ pieces of paper from the sunday edition just for 6 pages of "funnies")
The artists of these "Funnies" eventually compile the work into volumes that are usually about the same thickness as a manga, and sometimes (since the works are many times inconsistant or follow week-long "mini arcs) release special "collections" (Far Side is known for this) containing the comics such as: Larger combination volumes and calendars.
Now, as with everything, there are some pretty die-hard obsessed fans (the comic "Dilbert" is insanely popular with office workers, "Cathy" is popular with women, "Garfield" and "Peanuts"(Charlie Brown, Snoopy) have actually become major cultural icons for the US (Garfield car window hanger things and snoopy...EVERYTHING) and these comics even have spots at Comic conventions (albeit not nearly as big as the anime/manga and american "standard" comics...or star trek/wars for that matter...the fans simply don't NEED to go to conventions all the time)

Akamatsu Ken's Magister Negima has improved, especially in the area of magic/action. Negima seems to be comparatively better than his previous works (i.e. disclaimer: I have not seen any of his dojins and I have no intention to do so).

It is fast paced, action-packed, (with plot/themes in the arcs) and there are surprises in store for those who keeps up with the progress of the story. Ecchi-ness, fan services are part of Japanese culture (it seems). However, as long as you do not think too deepy into these aspects (if you find it disturbing), Negima is entertaining.

As a matter of fact, (personally speaking) the latest chapters of Negima has shown that Akamatsu has improved on the story/plot/theme as the manga progresses.

Grabbed the first English volume(First US batch in the store since it was still in shrinkwrap) the other day. Definitely worth the read. XD Dammit, what I wouldn't give to be in his position though...except for the magic portion. Sneezing is hazardous for your health. :P

I have heard from sites that Negima is edited quite a bit for the US audiece.

I for one refuse to buy a manga that edits the creators work just to make it sell for a bigger audience.

I guess you didn't get the memo, but Del Ray decided not to edit Negima because of fan outcry.

they DIDN'T edit Negima, however...as a precaution they covered it in shrinkwrap
i had the train scene from the Comic Party Omake episode 1 running through my head about "plas-books" when i opened my box and saw the no-plastic-cover XXXholic and Tsubasa and a plastic-covered Negima...i looked at the back: Tsubasa and XXXholic are rated 13+, Negima is rated 16+ and wrapped in plastic -_-
