other must reads:

standard things to check out:
D. Gray-man
Naruto
Bleach
One Piece
Hitman reborn
(I would certainly recommend Gray-man and One Piece)

others worth checking:
Fruits Basket (which is really good, romance series)
Negima (from the maker of Love Hina, you might want to check that out)
Kekkaishi
Vampire Knight
xxxHolic
Tsubasa Chronicle
Card Captor Sakura
Full metal Alchemist
Full metal panic
neon genesis evangelion
school rumble

all kind of standard choices =3

most of the times when you have anime based on a manga version it is also nice to check the manga out, cause it runs longer than the series and sometimes the ending is different as well
also mangatraders.com allows yout o search mangaseries on keywords for summaries, for if you want to know more titles about a certain subject or cathegory

Are you looking for anything in particular? Do you want more romace/harem-romace like Love Hina? Do you want more action like Black Cat? There are planty of great manga out there, but what is the point of me recommending something like Rose of Versailes if you think it is too old or too shoujo, etc. So, if you could add some parameters, that would be great.

I second that. You are asking for must see manga, that 's rather ambigous.
I suggest some general manga;
AzumangaDaioh
Mushishi
Yotsubato

I could have gived more suggestion, if I had more info.

Thanx everybody! I loved Love Hina, so I am open to more romance stuff.

Ganbaru, what would general Manga entail, a little blend of all?

And how is Rose of Versailes?

and karuma, what are the FULL METALS about?

I was more thinking for everyone ( if such thing exist).
The only Romance manga I have is Saikano, but it's not for everyone ( rated Mature and do not fit the taste of many peoples)

Are you a guy? Also, how good you are with Shoujo?

For shounen/seinen, You may wanna try out the classic: Kimagure Orange Road, Maison Ikkoku, Ah! My Goddess. They are very good comedy-romance, but also heavily slice of life, and you need 5-10 chapter to get used to the artwork and old style first. Suzuka, Ichigo 100% and I'' are also good.

And what Full Metal are you asking about? Nevertheless, they are both action-comedy focus, not romance. But both are very good shounen.
Full metal Alchemist has a sci-fi/supernatural setting, about a world with "alchemist". There's a boy who lost his arm and his brother lost the body, and had his soul put in an armor. Pretty much the same old beat the evil to save the world.
Full metal Panic is also sci-fi setting, but very close to our world (except the mecha robot part). It's the story about a military maniac boy sent by Mithril (an out-law justice organization) to protect a high school girl with this special ability.

You may like Ai Kora. It's a romantic comedy manga with some harem elements like Love Hina with a twist, the main guy is obsessed with what he considers perfect parts like breast, voice, and eyes. It's quite lighthearted and easy read.

Yes I am a guy... and I like Shoujo a lot.
But, I think I am going to try either Naruto next or One Piece (which I just saw and it looked very interesting).

Thank you all for the suggestions

Of those two, I would recommend One Piece over Naruto. They are both good, but One Piece is more...epic, I guess.

Here is a list of good beginners manga (based on various series that I have that meet your basic requirements):

666 Satan
Air Gear
Angel Densetsu
Angel Sanctuary
Ayashi no Ceres
Beauty Pop
Beck
Busou Renkin
Chii's Sweet Home
Eyeshield 21
Emma
Fairy Tail
Gakuen Alice
Gokusen
GTO
Hikaru no Go
Inuyasha
Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Mahou Sensei Negima!
Midori no Hibi
Mysterious Girlfriend X
Nodame Cantabile
Rurouni Kenshin
Yankee-kun to Megane-chan

I couldn't let this question go unanswered.

Rose of Versailles is amazing. It blends historical stuff, romance and action to make one awesome shoujo. If you end up liking it, you may also want to check out Revolutionary Girl Utena, which was heavily influenced by Rose of Versailles. (Though most people -- myself included -- like the Utena anime better.)

Since you said you like shoujo, I'll just list a few more I haven't seen anyone suggest yet:

Ouran High School Host Club
Cat Street
Sand Chronicles
Lovely Complex
Alice 19th
Full Moon wo Sagashite

Mangas i enjoyed a lot and would recommed are:

Kenichi: martial arts / comedy / shounen manga with 315 translated chapters atm and still on going. If you like action martial arts then this the manga you should read.... if you want to laugh until you stomach huts in every single chapter then this is a must xD

Bitter Virgin: romance drama / slice of life manga. This is a completed manga about the life of a tragic school girl... very touching and since it is finished, you wont have to suffer waiting for releases.

As for other suggestion i hve in mind, ill need you to tell me if you dont mind unfinished / ongoing mangas cause if you dont like them then i have no more suggestions to make >.<
