Psycho Moe / Yandere / Shuruba Anime Series
Hey, Everyone.
After searching through AnimeSuki forums, I noticed there wasn't a topic on this so I decided to start my own. First off, some of you might want to know what Yandere or Yangire mean. Yandere: a Japanese term for a personality that is initially extremely loving and gentle, then at one point becomes deranged or psychotic, often brutally so. Yangire: refers to characters who snap all a sudden out of jealousy or irritation or something similar. (definitions copied from wiki) I've been in love with these kinds of characters and the series they were in ever since I first discovered anime 8 years ago. However it was only just recently that I found the Yandere and Yangire terms. Turns out there are a bunch of people who enjoy these series, but have also never known these terms. That's why I set up this topic, in hope to spread awareness for this genre, even though I have a feeling it won't be that popular. You can do anything from suggesting new series, posting artwork, or just talking scenes you liked, I personally don't care, just try to keep to Yandere type anime and characters. All right, I'm going to try and make as complete a list as possible of all the Yandere character containing series. I'll also try to give a rating out of 5 as to how good of a yandere moment it contains. The question mark means I probably haven't watched it, or haven't finished watching it, so help me out a bit with your own opinions. Anyways, this list is far from complete so contributions and suggestions are both needed and appreciated. The List Yandere Shuffle!: 5 -Kaede Fuyou Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: 5 -Rena Ryuguu -Mion Sonozaki -Shion Sonozaki School Days: 5 -Sekai Saionji -Kotonoha Katsura Magical Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS: ? Code Geass: ? -Nina Einstien -Princess Euphemia Mirai Nikki: ? -Yuna Gift ~eternal rainbow~: ? Doubt (manga): ? -Mitsuki Shuruba Elfen Lied: 5 Chaos Head: 4 Note: the rating is not for how good of a series it is overall, but for how good or how many Yandere moments there are. But seriously, please make some suggestions, I'd really like to know if their were any other series like the ones above, because they seem impossible to find otherwise. oh, and here's a nice pic I found to give a basic idea of the thread. Well, not the manga at least. Mizore was actually played for laughs more than anything else.
In a way, we have to thank someone that Nanoha's weapon doesn't really kill. If not, given her style...

If I recall correctly there was a sig that someone on here was sporting that was filled with nothing but Yandere characters.
My personal faves are Kaede from Shuffle! and Asakura Ryoko from Haruhi Suzumiya. Rena of Higurashi comes in as a close 3rd though.

^ long story short, despite her polite exterior, she was slightly violent on the inside. One of the main reason why she joined the kendo club was because she found it "fun" to strike at people
Anyway a thought just recently popped into my head. Are terms like 'Yandere', 'Yangire' and 'Tsundere' limited to female use only or are we able to subject it to male as well?

And of course the dere terms aren't subjected to one gender, it's just that it seems to happen way more to girls than guys. |

Was it someone here who came out with that "School Days/Shuffle/Gift ~eternal raindow" mental derangement photo progression chart? I still have that photo saved.
Was it School Days that inspired the temporary psychosis that was displayed in the Gift anime? That wasn't in the game was it? |

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR GIFT, SHUFFLE AND SCHOOL DAYS: http://terencepage.tripod.com/a75765678734.jpg Too bad the last "Gift ~ eternal rainbow" character photo doesn't look as crazy as the other two, but the scene makes a whole lot more sense if you're familiar with the anime. EDIT: Miyako Miyazawa was in "Bamboo Blade" not "Kare Kano". |
