It still sounded nice though. I cannot wait until Vol.3 DVD!
I'm interested to know your favourite songs then.

Mine would be Vanity, Mezame (<3), Himeboshi, In the land of twilight under the moon (godly harmonising is godly), Zodiacal sign and dream scape.

The other discussion I was having with someone about the 4 singers is "Which do you think is the cornerstone of the group, in that if one had to drop out it would ruin the dynamic?".

My friends choice was Keiko, as she is the only one who can do the drive those powerful lower notes. My choice was Kaori, as she drives the melody so well.

My favorite is...actually I like them all. But if I had to choose then Mezame, The Song of Storm and Fire, Dream Scape, Houseki, Zodiacal Sign. See I can't just choose just one. But yeah, I guess my only gripe is the short abrupt background chorus in Song of Storm and Fire but I still like it. By the way I remembered, I didn't like Canta per me, the opening part sung by Yuriko. She used a bit too much of her voice-shaky skill (what do you call that?).

As for which one dropping out ruining the group, then I agree it's definitely Keiko. But if any one of them drop out it would still affect the whole group! They're so good as a group.

I never liked Canta Per Me to begin with, so it wasn't a big loss for me. And vibrato is the term you're looking for. Maybe? Potentially?

Hell, I dunno. I'm so not a muso. Certainly the one conclusion I've discovered is that even though Kajiura has a very similar formula to nearly all her music, it works so damn well.

I'm really looking forward to the third volume. Especially for YUUKA to make an appearance. I always wondered why she was never included in the group stuff, and have since come to the conclusion that while she's very good as a live singer, she simply doesn't have the consistency in her voice as the others do (even though I like her voice a lot more that Yuriko's).

Yes, vibrato! I know, her style never gets old and I always like it. I hope these few months will go by fast so I can watch her next concert on DVD. I hope it is available at my local Japanese store so I won't have to pay so much.

That DVD is simply devine. Kajiura is a masterful composer, and has a keen eye for talent in her vocalists. No wonder she is so very sought-after for her compositions.

Favourite vocalists in order would have to be: KAORI, WAKANA, KEIKO, Kaida Yuriko, Itou Eri. YUUKA would be high up there, but unfortunately we have to wait for vol three so we can see if her live performances have improved.

Must admit I loved the WAKANA/KEIKO pairing. Their voices just harmonise so brilliantly.

Must agree about 'Canta per me'. Kaida used far too much vibrato in the opening parts, and overall it wasn't given the power and depth it really needed to take off.

Keiko gets my vote as cornerstone member, for reasons stated earlier: She's the only one that has that deep, powerful voice for the other melody singers to bounce off.

I personally want to see how Hikaru, and at one point, Maya, hold their own live. They're both young, so I don't expect them to be the best.

But don't they already perform in the live opening act which features Kalafina? Well, I know one of them is never there anymore though, forget who.

Has anyone mentioned her pretty much first project, in the Kimagure Orange Road : Summer's Beginning Movie? Epic OST, includes my favorite track, "Kyosuke N.1"
Though throughout all her works, it is really tough to pick only one. She has produced some magnificent music.

I just had a listen on YouTube. Great stuff (as always). I'm just curious but did that OST have any opera-ish tracks with choruses as well?

Yeah. Maya and Hikaru both were at Live- Vol.2, but Maya quit because of school & trouble commuting.

Samples of the songs are out. It's funny, with some of KAORI's songs they seem to strip any trace of reverb off her voice, which makes it sound worse recorded than live. Which is tragic when you compare to her Yuki Kajiura LIVE and Sound Horizon live events.

I hope it's just the sample's quality and not the original.

Sadly it's not just the sample quality. Seems Kajiura really wanted to make Kaori (especially) sound like she was singing in a carpeted box for the majority of the album. :\

Also noted offences against Yuuka and Keiko. Wakana seems to have come out of it unscathed. Wonder what the others did to make Kajiura hate them?

::Sigh::

Anyway, on to the favourites list:
Track 1 (Hoshikuzu)
Track 2 (Kioku no mori)
Track 4 (Gin no hashi)
Track 8 (Hanamori no Oka)
Track 14 (Michiyuki)

All deserve much love. The new composition for El Cazador Amor was great, only problem was Yuuka's voice. No reverb is not flattering... to anyone.

Apple of Summer – Kalafina – Translation by Janissaryy

Hiding behind the sunflowers of hedge
We have kissed quickly
Your soft cheeks are
I’m sure they are very sweet

We have chased a hare into a meadow
Nobody can see us now
In this field which totally ignores us
There was a shoe thrown off as if it was a sign

It was a summer, nothing happened
It was only that I fell in love

The midsummer night where the crescent is dancing
Brings together a love to dream of
While counting the stars, lemon-colored
I am placing a kiss to your heart

The melody of flute carries you off
In the wind, to the autumn, coming soon

The green apple which is too young
It tastes very bad as if it was some kind of metal
From the branch where the pain becomes the fruit
You have taken it

The fishes, that do not sleep, dreaming
It was an unending summer
The hearts, the seasons, and the apples
They have forgotten even to redden

The bird of the weather vane which is sensitive to cold
It sings that the autumn is approaching

The midsummer night where the crescent is swaying
I remember the love I have forgotten
One page of my dream, the bell sounds of stars
I am placing a kiss to your heart

It is the innocent apple from that summer
It remains in my heart forever
