Hmmm, I finished it. I'll post some detailed thoughts on the entire series later this week if I find the time. It's interesting to see what worked and what didn't work in the series, and I think in a way the final episode amplifies all faults throughout the series, and makes for some pretty good subject matter in terms of a post mortem of the series.

I didn't like it. They sacrificed spending a couple extra bucks in their budget to see how things panned out better for a cheaper harder to understand ending. I got the geist of it all but the shit with Akiyuki and the empereor and Nakiami's sacrifice still isn't fully making sense in my head right now. Maybe its because I'm so damn slow, or maybe its because Bones was once again too lazy to explain everything in a decent amount of detail and sacrifice an action based ending that would be easier to understand for a cheaper price and poor explanations.

They left more than a few things left open, but I can deal with it.
Spoiler for emperor:
The epilogue was a nice touch. Spoiler for akiyuki:
*edit* The tags are a little immature. .. 'from great to bad' ..trolled by bones. :V *edit2* Oh wait now it's disappointing... valid but this would go with way too many other series, still subjective Last edited by SageGaiGar; 2009-02-04 at 22:06. Reason: wtf |

Honestly I felt the ending was too underwhelming, and I really think they did skimp on the ending budget wise, but for a project totally dependent on the income of online sales, makes this series quite impressive. For me there just wasn't enough character development, also those that compare this to Eureka 7 have to realize that that anime had an extra 25 episodes of character development. I think for a "mecha" drama standpoint its very similar to Geass R2 because both saw a bloated cast but the difference was that in geass atleast with Lulu dieing that was the best executed end to a interesting ride. Geass and Xamd both suffer from abrupt endings that don't bring closure to the bloated cast they have introduced, and I think as a viewer we feel gipped of the expierence because many characters that we like don't get a fitting ending that they so deserve. I mean yango was is in the latter half and all we see him do in the final episode is spend a fifth of the episode trying to keep the quikening chamber closed where as his character actually wasn't that important. I mean this series was good because after finishing all 26 episodes I feel like the ride was quite good, yes in my mind this won't be a masterpiece because the end is rushed but its still a solid anime and definitely one of the best this season

I think the final run up to 25 was a very decent attempt at wrapping things up as neatly as they could. The series definitely felt like it could have used more fleshing out, but I'm satisfied with the end product overall. I'd rate this series 7.9/10 (gets bonus points for technical merit and happy endings
).

No surprise to see that people were over-reacting with their comments on the last episode. Seriously, there was nothing wrong with it. It delivered good closure and a satisfying ending. If you really did dislike this last episode, or the series then i say it's your own fault for expecting something completely different.
Spoiler for Episode 26:
Also i've asked a mod about deleting the disappointing tag. Talk about childish.

honestly in a pretty underwhelming season this was a good show, there was actually a lot more potential for the series, but it really suffered from lack of length, speaking of the ending, it really was a good attempt to bring closure which many series these days don't. I mean really for a 50 episode series you devote like 2 mins for an epilogue and don't use the ed time to flesh out some endings=slap in the face to fans, im think about you code geass.
Spoiler:
all the detractors, this series was good, its not on par with some other series out there but most anime is like that, and in a season where there really wasn't much to watch, it made me excited every week to catch xam'd |
