Question website link in the title of a quote

Just a minute ago I was in a topic quoting something from a website and in the [ quote= blablabla ] part I pasted the url of the website where I took it from but when I posted it the code changed from lets say

[.quote= [.url]http://www.precisesecurity.com/threats/w32heular].[/url] ]

I simply pasted the link in it but when you then post it the link receieves its [.url] tags

to

[.quote= [.url]http://www.precisesecurity.com/threats/w32heular][./url]

without the dots ofc, but is that normal?
it leaves the closing "]" away

I don't thin url tags work in quote header.

Sounds like one of the forum's user interface quirks.

If you don't switch off the "Automatically parse links in text" option in the "Miscellaneous Options" section of the "Additional Options" (only found when you press the "Go Advanced" button), anything that looks like a URL is likely to be wrapped in URL bbcode. Not always helpful...

So yes, it is normal, just a little annoying occasionally.

Karum, when you want to post actual bbcode you can use the noparse tag to prevent vB from interpreting words with brakets. So if you wish to write:

[quote=[url]http://www.precisesecurity.com/threats/w32heular][/url]

...type it in as:

[noparse][quote=[url]http://www.precisesecurity.com/threats/w32heular][/url][/noparse]

Automatically parse links in text? yes

Without quotation marks:
[quote=[url]http://www.animesuki.org/[/url]]test quote[/quote]
It will break:

Interestingly, though, it isn't adding the URL tags in the preview, even with "Automatically parse links in text" switched on...

This might not be the case when finally submitting the reply, though.

One thing I just noticed in both your example Cats, and the original:
.../threats/w32heular].[/url] ]
There is an extra "]" in there that will confuse the parser:

I noticed that too, but doubt Karuma copy/pasted when writing the OP so did not feel it was worth mentioning.

Wikipedia can give you a reasonable explanation of what parse means; in this context it means interpreting the BB Code you put in your post in order to present it visual elements like the quote box, spoiler box, formatting, etc.
