-Character design (they ruined original manga design) - uber-fail.
-Cheap backgrounds and 3d - fail. -Opening right from 70's - fail. -Cheap "Shaft-style" effects - fail. +Rather good work with scenario (but different with manga). +Yep, director knows how to work. So... no, I think, this isn't really my show. Last edited by Littm; 2009-04-06 at 09:33. |

almost great ... just kidding , I don't realy know what is this show all about.... I've read a few chapters of [Kobayashi's [just hell he's done it] >>manga, and I've to say BORING .
On the other hand, like a concept work, it isn't bad at all and it's shaft who's done great work with that retro style.... Come on , char desing isn't boring anymore..... Give me 2nd ep. and I'll see. 7/10 |

Just watched it. My comments...
The references on the manga are great. The direction is awesome. The first ep. story is NOT from the manga which is something good for first time watchers, this will give the question, "What is this about? Time traveling abuse?" lol. Spoiler for ep1:
I think now KJ is just the artist, let the director handle the story...lol Also as many wish the artwork should be nearer to the manga. Only Hajime and Kaja/Kaya are the ones near the manga...if you see the black and white, there are colored pics in the manga which are reference to the colors of the hair, clothing...etc. EDIT: Whoa?!!! Licensed?! That fast?

How's it confusing? Sure they don't explain why the three girls can time travel, though with this show it's not like it needs to be explained right at the beginning. All we know for now is that they can time travel.

It sounds weird, but I think what was missing from the first ep was some ecchi. I mean - you had the Gainax feel, the busty girls and teenage boys, time-travel, general madcap humor - but there was really no sexual undercurrent. I don't mean that flippantly, but that seems odd given the other elements of the story. Almost like a castrated Gainax venture.

What's the opinion of people who usually like SHAFT work? 'Cause I'm seeing a lot of negative comments on the subject of style and character design, and the latter already looks pretty SHAFT-y to me--I'm not usually put off by SHAFT artwork at all, and it's hard for me to dislike Shinbou's rather unusual style.
If this is pretty much classic SHAFT+Shinbou, I'll ignore the negative comments on those subjects as noise.
