its just lelouch's leather pants making you think that
there are plenty of much worse characters
they just didnt happen to directly oppose lelouch as much as suzaku

No it's not that, this guy is just annoying as a character.

He is always talking about what he once to do...he's a lost character the entire show.

he's pretty clear in season 1
i agree that in R2 he kinda gets derailed
but there are far worse characters then him (rolo V.V, mao, bradly)

Well, to me, Suzaku is easy the greatest character in the show. In R2 he gets a little villianized, but even then, he's still awesome.

...Gino...

...What?

The guy went off to play pool while his alleged friend spent the better part of a day standing in a self-inflicted multi-kilometer hole in the ground that swallowed up 35 million people (well, only 10 million as far as Gino is admittedly concerned), and when said friend comes back clearly not in his usual mindset, he jumps on the "Suzaku you traitor!" boat, ignoring the nice little "Whoa, slow down buddy, you've clearly gone through a wholly unique and traumatic event and should go seek some professional counciling before you attempt any life altering decisions," boat.

I remember the first time i've saw the second op of R2 i thought "OMG, Gino is doing an eviiiill look! I think he finally will do something relevant!" But no, he simply can't. He's the failure in human form.

not true
he DID have a very importent role
his job was to catch kallen in ep 25
without him, there would be no epilouge

well...
it WAS importent
doesnt mean GINO was importent as a character
but he filled an importent ROLE
grented, his role could just as well have been played by tamaki
but still....
can you imagine the final ep witout the epilouge

There would have still been an epilogue, just told from a different view

no dude
gino SAVED zero-r and in fact all of the final arc of code geass

it was forbidden for anyone to die during the final battle
the entire point of the last arc was the need to allow lelouch to behave like a complete monster and still come out as sympathtic in the end for his sacrifice
thats why there wasnt a single named character who died during the final battle (aside from diethard, but no one cares about him, becouse the ass-hole was a smug snake with chronic backstabbing disorder)
not even shinzel died in the end, and he was planing to nuke the world into behaving themselves

thats the only reason you can sell lelouch as sympathetic in the end
becouse despite of all the shit he did, he didnt actually kill any sympathetic characters with his actions

kill off kallen, and he becomes much less sympathetic (the entire battle after all is his own doing)
not just kallen either
nunnaly, kaguya, xing-ke, tianxi
the death of any character who wasnt directly involved in his betrayal in ep 19 would make him out as an ass-hole protagonist villain

hence, by saving kallen, gino allowed lelouch to be viewed as a sympathetic ass-hole protagonist and not just an ass-hole protagonist

Very true.

No. Deithard wasn't a backstabber. He was what he was. A media person. What Deithard did is what the media does in real life. They overhype one thing, and try to manipulate their views on said thing to fit their agenda. When that gets too old, they move onto the next thing and try to destroy what they were "fans" of earlier. They are all snakes, bastards, and hungry for ratings and a story. Screw journalistic integrity. He was slime, and he pulled it off nicely. Probably the most realistic character in the entire series. XD

Actually it was symapthetic in the end not only because of that but because he also sacrificed himself to make the world a better place.

But how did all this get into the Suzaku topic? XD

go back a few pages to see the start
basiclly it has more to do with gino then suzaku
gino's only real act of importence in the final half of R2
i was saying why it actually IS importent

and i wasnt saying that he is sympethetic BECOUSE he didnt kill sympathetic characters
im saying he would have been much LESS sympathetic if he had

I probably wouldn't have been too happy about the first two dieing... Don't care much about Kaguya though... <.<'

I would have probably been harder on Lelouch if he got Nunnally killed though... A LOT harder... ANd I am usually ranting about him a lot without that. lol. XD

and now lets just rope this baby back on topic

hence, by saving kallen, gino prevented lelouch from becoming much less sympathetic
and there for filled his rather importent role
BUT...
he still sucks
just like many other characters suck
characters who ARENT suzaku

pewwwww

Gino should have gotten a purple version of his KOR uniform made, dyed his hair dark green, painted his face white, and done a clumsy lipstick job on his face before bursting into Suzaku's room in the middle of the night and yelling "Why so serious?!"

You know he would if he ever saw that movie.

In all seriousness though, I've wondered about the idea of Suzaku trying to fight more defensively against Kallen to 'stop' her, rather than go all-out-direct on her. I know he'd have to go all out whatever he did (Geass and all) but if he fought defensively, then she would probably have either

A) Been too caught up in beating him to remember that Lelouch was still in Damocles until it was too late.

B) Been too busy dealing with Suzaku to go after him even if she did realize it was a stall tactic. They both had to go all out on eachother and it was nearly dead even. If she diverted her attention for a moment to try to slip away then Suzaku would have that much more chance of taking her down when she wasn't 100% focused on stopping him.

Once Lelouch took Damocles, she could be forced to surrender, what with her enemy having a nuke fortress and showing he was willing to use it (Schneizel apparently kept the 10 minute reload time issue a secret from the BK).
