Ah I forgot to mention... what's up with Saki saying that Japan is a country without a king? It is as if she doesn't know there is an emperor. I've never heard of a country were an emperor and a king can coexist, what is Juiz going to do about that?
It's a twist from the monologue from the very 1st episode, where Saki mentioned that Akira was forced to become a Prince against his will in a country without a princess.

This episode also reminded me of that one impossible final exam joke...

"Political Science: There is a red telephone on the desk beside you. Start World War III."

And once again, ALL HAIL AKIRA!

Roflmao. So whatever to all you Ohsugi protectors? He didn't even do anything useful at all. What to that one person who said he was gonna save Saki or Akira? He didn't do jack. Just some guy who got jealous and started spreading rumors.

I still think that's not a reason enough for wishing him to die.

Hmm... a couple of questions:

What was the significance of the Taxi driver? (they shot so many different angles of him.. there has to be something important there.)

Is there more significance to the Selecao with the black beanie and the purple shirt (the one who hasn't spent any of his money) ? He seems like he's just there... but maybe he knows something?

What did Akira mean with his phrase: "This merry go round is missing a golden ring" ?

Why is Japan a country without kings? Or is it less literal, it is a country who has nobody willing to take responsibility of a leader?

(random side note: I couldn't help but think at certain parts of the episode Code Geass XD >__>)

Just Googled it. Older merry-go-rounds used to have a golden (or brass) ring (on the ceiling I guess) that children could reach for and pull to win a free ride.

Personally, I'm suspecting that the taxi driver may be the Mr. Outside himself. He's supposed to be old, and the driver certainly looked old.

More over so, Takizawa's phone kept open connection to Saki's, and I'm sure Mr. Outside would have access to all of the numbers' phone records and probably got curious about her involvement. Furthermore, weren't they having problems finding a taxi to get on in first place, yet we conviently find them riding one afterwards.

I'm sure this is just wild speculation, but that's my thoughts.

Also, I had expected X to die by end of the TV series, given how two of the three numbers had died off in the TV (as implied by the OP). Guess that death's reserved for the movies.

And finally, yes it's true that numbers will be killed once their balance hits zero, but Takizawa's balance is not zero YET. Remember, as Juiz had explained before: in an event of complex requests, they will be processed in smaller sections (and gradually decrease the balance). So until then Takizawa's still alive. And it's quite possible that he'll become the King before the balance hits zero. He never specified when to stop processing the request either, so even if he becomes King there's still bound to be some opposition, so any balance remaining can be still used to preserve his 'King' status.

...just won't stop editing, lol

I realized that Takizawa made comment about how he'd want to be the same person he was when he and Juiz meets could actually be interpreted as yet another request; I think that implies that once he and Juiz meets, under any circumstances, the brainwashing he recieved later would be undone.

Regarding the "memory call" — I got the impression that it was actually undoing the original wipe (though on a rewatch I realized from the dialogue that Akira might have gotten his memories back on his own anyway, in which case another wipe would probably be more plausible).

I felt like I was watching the ending to Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG at points during this episode (missiles flying from cruisers, interceptions in midair...). Not that that's a bad thing by any means.

While this episode didn't really clear up a lot of details, I happen to be able to completely forget trivial things such as wanting to see how everything is resolved over a really great looking ending. Which simply means I loved this episode. Wall banging comes after.

Exactly.

Getting into this the expectations were raised, but I know I was going to get burned by the final revelation. 9 out of 10 times that's what happens with these types of shows.

I thought this one might be different, but I guess I was wrong.

I agree with Jan-Poo on a number of things -- inconclusive conclusion, for example -- but I thought that Akira being so depressed by being betrayed was a great touch. To me, it made him seem a deeper character. Of course, I find ideal heroes who can meet any challenge boring, lol.

As for izmosmolnar's list of interesting points, I'll just say:
  • Pantsu surviving was a disappointing illogicality but not beyond possibility
  • good point about what the NEETs were doing in Dubai; the NEET with the fiancee seemed to live in Toyosu, so it's reasonable he could be attracted by the commotion
  • the Supporter won't kill Akira if his actions as king lead to a better Japan
  • the Emperor is seen by everybody as a figurehead -- as opposed to how they saw him 70 years ago -- maybe that's why the king/emperor thing is not a disconnect.
  • I'm hoping he's getting his memories returned, not removed again; but this is one thing that I'm sure Kamiyama will have an interesting reason for, in six months' time.
In general, I think I agree with the critics that this was a good show that could have been much better, if some logical disconnects had been cleaned up, and more time had been spent with Saki and Akira developing their relationship. Leaving mysteries unsolved is okay by me, although solving a few more now rather than later would have been nice.

As Theowne put it: "...I think I expected a lot more from this series than what I got. I don't think the romance subplot was particularly well developed and the originally scattered plot did not end up feeling very cohesive/natural like it does in the best fiction of this type."

One thing about this show, it kept me coming back eagerly to watch each episode as soon as I could get my hands on it. And I'll do the same when the movie become available.

To tell the truth, just hearing Hayami Saori do such a great job was almost enough for me, lol. I've been following her since her debut, and it's gratifying to hear her keep getting better. I think she may have the most beautiful voice in anime (I'm speaking of sheer beauty, not skill or acting, in which she is good, but not the best).

I really don't like the 'king' part, and I don't think that he would wipe his memories again as, obviously, that could prove unproductive and dangerous and Saki would be able to tell him everything in a few minutes when he would become curious as to who he was and the nature of his amnesia. But I hope they make an interesting interpretation of 'king' in the film; and that there is, of course, a good camrip or leak much sooner than spring.

Lol exactly he didn't do anything. What exactly Hirasawa, Kasuga and micchon have done more than him? Nothing, they all behaved exactly the same in this episode, no actually at least the three guys had the guts to strip naked and go in the wolves den to retrieve the laptop. The real useless character is the Oneechan. So if not doing anything is a good reason to hate someone, feel free to hate the Oneechan.

I have to go to bed but I just want to say how awesome this episode was and how much I hate the semi-cliff hanger. I can't wait for November!!

Yes, and perhaps we have seen him (or at least his taxi) before, in #9's flashback in episode 4. (you can see the taxi logo at 15:00, btw, it's blurry but I don't think it's an "Ato". ) And perhaps this is the same taxi driver that Hiura got his mission from. Also, Kondo's last expense was for a rental from ATO Taxi+Hire, and while I don't know how that connects with the story, I refuse to believe that company name was just a coincidence.

I think I'd be disappointed in the ending not clearing a lot of things up too, if we didn't already know there would be films following the series' conclusion way back in the beginning of things. Seeing as it was planned that way, I was actually expecting TV finale lacking any sort of conclusion whatsoever. As it stands, we get one arc semi-resolved, leading into the promise of more.

I'm kinda shocked so many are surprised by the anti-climax here.

Actually, I just noticed a comment on Random Curiosity pointing out something I missed in this episode: this time the taxi does have a name + logo, at about 1:39; the name is indeed Ato, and the logo seems identical to that blurry logo in ep 4. QED.

Nope, she does say "without a king (王様)"

As to this ep, when No.2 left the brain research institute, he mentioned to No.10, it was reported the day before yesterday that the strategic program of the Patriot's system had been rewritten.

So, what's the significance of this program rewritten?
